    It’s actually logic, of a sort.

    The axiom or core assumption is “Orange Man Bad”.

    The rationalization for this is that he is uniquely wicked, beyond all other Republicans.

    Over time, however, it becomes increasingly obvious that Orange Man isn’t really very different from most Republicans.

    Thus, the Never Trumper has either to give up NT-ism (psychologically costly), or become “Never Republican”.

    Bill Kristol might be an example, if we assume he actually believes in anything.
