I disagree with Jason Russell about a fan’s need to overlook baseball’s social and racial justice fixation and just enjoy the game.  I started following baseball 65 years ago as a 7-year-old and I’ve followed the standings and games religiously ever since. Two years ago, my wife and I watched nearly every Seattle Mariners’ TV broadcast.

Last week, I watched the first Mariners’ game on TV, and I haven’t watched since. I was seriously put off by all of the political posturing forced down the fans’ throats in the ballpark and on TV during the game and afterwards. I’m also put off by management’s contempt for the beliefs and feelings of at least half of their fans.

MLB is destroying the national pastime and violating a sacred trust with Americans and our heritage.

I agree. I think Jason was dismissive of any concerns about what is happening in various institutions. Should the MLB have just ignored the protest and let it blow over – yes. But they didn’t do that did they. Things have changed since even a year ago. It is silly to ignore that and think things will just get better.
