As elected officials, candidates and media figures use the horrific mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton to score political points and further polarize our country, Larry O’Connor at Examining Politics speaks with National Review’s Charles CW Cooke about renewed calls for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and how those political arguments may very well exacerbate the underlying issues that contribute to these mass shootings. O’Connor also speaks with Sheriff Chuck Jenkins of Frederick County Maryland, a stone’s through from the nation’s capital, for a law enforcement perspective on these tragedies.

Enjoy catching up on interviews I don’t hear on WMAL because I’m not near a radio. Always enjoy Charles CW (even without his sidekick K Williamson) and Sheriff Jenkins. Also the enviroment guy whose name I’m forgetting. Definitely have him on again.

Cooke isn’t as bright as people think. I have owned a Chinese-made Ak-47 since I was in high school. I have three thirty round clips and it fires a military-grade 7.62MM bullet. The rounds I recently purchased are Russian manufactured. This is not a hunting weapon. If Cooke can’t make this distinction he’s being an idiot. I’m not saying they should be banned, just that simply because he went to school in a castle and has an accent, doesn’t mean he’s intelligent. He makes the same kind of obsession-based arguments when he talks about being a “classical liberal.”

I think he means what you can actually do about it as a legal / constitutional matter.
