The problem is he said it, referencing black countries. I don’t think Trump is a racist. I think he’s stupid. Making comments like this in a room with politicians, many of whom only wish for your destruction, is self destructive. The s… Hole remark is just the latest of mindless throw away comments and tweets. But it’s the most damaging, having given rise to the S..t Hole scandal we are witnessing. On MLK Weekend no less!
This thing has legs and overshadows whatever progress has been made on the economy. And it’s likely to damage Republican prospects for 2018, which weren’t very high to begin with. Where do candidates go to distance themselves from this president? His polling is very low even though most think the economy is in good shape. And now the opposition, along with the media is in a position to call him a bigot.
The S Hole scandal won’t blow over quickly, and along with the litany of dumb language could flip both houses. In such case, prospects for impeachment are strengthened.
