Thank you, Jane, for telling that story about being made to feel like an alien in your own peer group. Too much of the “national dialog” on race has been dominated by political actors who use the very real issues surrounding race relations as a cudgel to beat back their political opponents. It helps a great deal to hear stories from individuals about their concrete experiences and how they’re affected by them. It makes it easier for me to know what to do, which is to make sure I don’t “other” people who seem different, and to talk to them instead of talking about them.

Another dispatch podcast, this time interviewing someone from Vox (wtf). At any rate, I suppose they’re not going to challenge her about these riots (oops, I mean ‘protests’) are quite violent (oops, I mean ‘mostly peaceful’).

So, I guess you also don’t want to challenge her on Identity Politics, which must mean you agree with her, and the very phrase must be a ‘dog whistle’.
