So what is say, a salon owner who had a couple of employees who has been closed for 6 weeks, supposed to do? Starve quietly at home? There are people who have been hugely impacted by the shut down who are supposed to somehow survive on $1200 that may or may not turn up? A small business loan that may or may not come through? There will come a time when people MUST go back to work. It probably is not quite yet but it is fast approaching and calling the protests “astro turf” is stupid and insulting. My life hasn’t changed that much except I can’t see my grandkids, but I can certainly understand why people are getting desperate and they are not all Trumpers!
Here in Virginia we have a racist governor who is apparently flying to the Outer Banks every weekend while demanding that the rest of us hunker down. Maybe the AR-15s are a message for him.
Ditto, ditto, ditto.
So, the situation is easy to sum up: Trump is a racist and xenophobe for halting most flights from China so soon, oh, and he is also an incompetent idiot for not doing it sooner. He is a reckless, dangerous loon for wanting to open up the country on the sooner side, oh, and he will shortly be considered a callous idiot for waiting too long and ignoring the obvious economic devastation, health risks and death caused by extended lock-downs.
Businesses don’t need more loans/debt if they have paying customers. Employees don’t need more government checks when they have paychecks.
There is no conflict in the federal government understanding that the governors must lead within their states, and also calling out those governors that are failing their constituencies.
When the covid-19 situation first became a “thing” in the US, I mean when it first became apparent to the general US population, I thought that this situation would not begin to end till we (mostly) all got the disease in some form or another.
I think we’ve seen a variety of levels of severity to the illness in individuals. Everything from no symptoms to death. I’d like to hear from knowledgeable folks about whether we will (mostly) all eventually get infected or vaccinated. My point is that I believe this thing is going to happen and we need to stop panicking and face the inevitable with courage and a modicum of stoicism. Am I being too pessimistic, defeatist, callous?
Julia, Julia! I love you babe. I’m just surprised that Northam isn’t using a CCP jet while having his feet messaged by a POC. Beyond hypocrisy.
Some good suggestions on the album that bring joy on the podcast. “Flood” by They Might be Giants is a great suggestion by Sarah. Live OAR by Steve is super. Mine would be Ben Folds Five debut self titled album. A super joyful throwdown by a group that got more jaded with each album.
Sly and The Family Stone’s Greatest Hits.
