This is the best podcast on a specific plan to resolve COVID-19.
Reminds me of a story that Jonah likes to tell, about a group that calls themselves the Reasonables, since it would be hard to say you are against them. So you call your plan to reopen the country the Roadmap to Responsibly Reopen America. Who could be against the “responsible” plan? And my goodness, all those other plans must be irresponsible and unreasonable! Also, remember to use the word “simple” when describing it.
I’ll save you the time looking at the plan, which is repetitive, shallow, and contains some clearly erroneous statements: In a word, Testing!
1. Expand testing capacity
2. Get $ for testing
3. Start testing
4. Extend testing
5. Offer testing to everyone
That is a good summary of the plan. However, what is missing is how incredibly cost-effective this would be compared to the status quo.
I had to stop listening after about 20 minutes. Universal fortnightly testing for 330 million people, plus daily testing for several million (health care workers and elderly), possibly for years? Leaving aside the monetary costs, how does this work logistically? How could it possibly be enforced? How is this mountain of data processed, stored (or disposed of), and acted upon (or not)?
This isn’t a policy prescription, it’s a wish list. Ponies for all!
