David french argues in favors of endless war in Afghanistan. He is against leaving Afghanistan. He has no plan to win. He does believe that we can keep up current deployments — and their casualties — indefinitely.
This is why we have Trump.
Good discussion. The report on the Afghanistan deal is very disturbing. I do worry that it is a bad deal, but perhaps there is no good outcome at this point. Endless war, admittedly low-level, or withdrawal with the risk of chaos.
The deal, if I heard French correctly, is that in return for eternal war in Afghanistan with current casualty levels and $ spent, we prevent Afghanistan from becoming a terrorist haven.
We had 9 American deaths last year, according wikipedia, and the BBC says US cost was about 38 billion $. About 10,000 Americans are currently deployed to Afghanistan.
Fine, put the terms of the deal to the American people & see what they say. This is certainly nothing like what we signed up for in 2001.
