Our own Max (Site Admin at Ricochet) sits down with Dave Carter in this edition of Radio Deplorable. These two hit almost every topic imaginable, from the linguistic and cultural idiosyncrasies of the French language (French Canadian and Cajun), Max’s residence (built by a Revolutionary War veteran), the ideological consequences of life in New York City, civility and backbone in the age of bare-knuckled politics, and a sneak peak at coming enhancements to the Ricochet. It’s a wide ranging discussion and one that we think you’ll find both entertaining and intriguing.

    Good podcast.

I want to say, though, that I disagree with why Trump’s remark about Ted Cruz’s father was so horrible. Trump implied that Cruz’s father, who once was standing with Oswald at some function, may have known what Oswald intended to do and may have been in on it. Implying such a thing about Cruz’s father isn’t horrible because it’s a lie. It may or may not be. It’s either pure speculation or Trump knows something we don’t know. Whichever is the case, Ted Cruz, who wasn’t even born yet, would have had no control over anything his father did or didn’t do. People have no control over who or what their parents are or aren’t.

Trump was trying to intimidate Cruz by attacking a member of his family. You don’t do that.

Candy Crowley prior to the second debate in 2012 made it clear that she would not abide by the agreement she signed.  Romney should have nixed her at that point.  Why Rs agree to biased moderators is hard to understand.  I wrote a column in 2016 in American Thinker advocating abolishing them.  I discussed various ways of handling the questions.  A timer could ask them.  Even Trump was not as strong as he should have been in 2016 about the biased moderators.  Perhaps he felt that even a debate with biased moderators was a positive for him since it put him on a stage with HRC.  The Ds and MSM had mocked the idea that he could become president; yet, here he was debating Hillary.  It gave his candidacy much needed credibility.

Max has a great brain. And a great ear for which podcasts to be a guest on. And great knack for keeping a conversation rolling with intriguing commentary. And the absolute best tastes in selecting a really cool residence. AND he left NYC,…ergo, Max is a great American. The End.

The talk between Max and Dave about Trump’s style of fighting illustrated quite nicely my problem with it. In their discussion about what Trump said about Cruz’s father, Dave pushed back – a little. But it had to do  with Trump shooting himself in the foot. I can understand, and appreciate, Dave’s reluctance to humiliate a guest in any way. But at what point does morality enter into it? Max’s not understanding how Trump’s action may have hurt him reminded me of what that amoral Majority leader Harry Reid said when he was questioned about his treatment of Mitt Romney. In his case, the treatment seemed to work, because he lost. In Max’s case, it worked because Trump won. In both cases, winning seemed to be the only thing that mattered; to heck with the morality.

I can never speak for anybody but myself, but I suspect this is why we Trump Skeptics have never warmed to Trump – or will ever warm to him: The policies are good (except for Trade) but without a sense of decency  to say why these policies are good and proper, there is just no reason to be proud of this person as our leader.

I think I understand Trump. And because of my own personal experiences, I never do the “yeah but …” type of criticism.

After my dad died, I became the funniest person my mom knew. And she relied on me greatly when company was in town or she had visitors to keep everyone entertained and the conversation going. And occasionally I over stepped – said something a little too crude or biting.

When she would criticize me, I would always tell her that I was a package deal, that I occasionally would overstep the line, price to be paid for being funny (which by definition means you’re dancing pretty close)

If you don’t like Trump, then don’t like him. But people aren’t a la carte – you can’t take a pair of tweezers and remove one part of their personality and leave the rest intact.

If you like that he fights, a cheap shot or a wild blow is the price to be paid.

Apparently some do. I know, for instance, that Trump’s father had Alzheimer’s (learned that and have been reminded of it often right here on Ricochet)

Wasn’t Prescott Bush rumored to have some Nazi ties?

I had some problems with my account on Ricochet way back when. Max was terrific at getting them resolved very quickly. As a relatively new member at that time I felt really good that someone at Ricochet cared enough to do that. I had had far less positive experiences with several other subscription sites.

On the issue of Trump’s crassness, I found his remarks about Cruz’s wife far more inappropriate and crude than what he said about Cruz’s father which was obviously absurd. It was something that rang of an adolescent locker room. I am glad he was elected. I like what he is accomplishing, but I still find him personally unattractive.

    Anyway, Great Podcast Dave!
