What do you call a gathering that features Rob Long, Dave Carter, Peter Robinson, David Deeble, Melissa Praemonitus, Boss Mongo, and Max Ledoux? Yeah, we’re not sure either, so we’ll just call Radio Deplorable’s Christmas Extravaganza. From Christmas Greetings from Ricochet’s members to Rob’s encounter with Ronald Reagan, from Culinary Societies to Alphonse Fontenot auditioning to become a “moving star,” there’s something here for just about everyone, as Radio Deplorable wishes you a Merry Christmas.

Not sure if it is addressed in this podcast, but ol’ Alphonse should endorse a particular version of A Cajun Night Before Christmas. It was a Christmas tradition in my family. But, in trying to extend that tradition to the next generation, my sister recently learned in horror that there are inferior versions — sold in the bayou, no less! — that don’t even name Santa’s gators.

In olde thyme TV, competition between the networks wasn’t always as friendly as Rob Long remembers.

In the brief golden age of the miniseries, adapted novels like The Captains and the Kings, and Rich Man Poor Man, and North and South were network TV hits, and were going to launch a new age of originality in commercial television.

Until competing networks realized, in an age before VCRs, they could kill an entire miniseries by programming some big event against just the first episode.  Viewers would not come back for episode two.

Enjoyable all around. The end had me laughing!

The intro, on the other hand… “The Hemingway of the Highway”? @jameslileks Don’t you mean “de Twain o’ dat Ricochet tang”?

Thank you sir!  I’m not sure, and we’d have to ask @daviddeeble to be certain, but I think that’s how Calvin Coolidge discovered the show as well.

Dave:  Had to play the Fontenot part for my hubby (from Alexandria LA).  Joyeux Noel!
