Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 40 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
In this episode, Dave sits down with Ricochet’s own Dr. Bastiat for a free-wheeling discussion on everything from why progressives insist on loudly advocating for policies that don’t work (e.g., a lack of border enforcement, lack of adequate policing, a revolving door justice system, anemic defense foreign policy that invites aggression, etc). Is the Democrat party really anti-American? Dr. Bastiat also explains why Joe Biden may actually have been the most successful president in history.
Along the way, Dave discusses the left’s current meltdown over President Trump’s rapid deportation of violent illegals from American soil. Getting a bit spun up, Dave doesn’t stop until he’s calling for at least some of these predators to be shipped to Pope Francis himself! It’s a fast-paced episode, and a riveting conversation between Dave and Dr. Bastiat. This is one you won’t want to miss. to…. what?
Great podcast, guys.
Thanks! It was fun.
The editors cut out the 2 hour segment in which we discussed our favorite Hallmark movies. Oh well.
Hahaha!!!
Doc B, I’ve noticed you have been using the term leftist vs. liberals lately. Well, maybe I just noticed it. The distinction being a leftist wants to destroy the American capitalist system, whereas a liberal wants to twist it and change to fit their liking. Correct me if I’m on the wrong track.
I think everyone fits into at least one of five political categories: Sheltered-left, left, oblivious, right, and sheltered-right. Far left and far right can be on the wings but not necessarily.
I view most of us here are in the last two categories. I am not saying the sheltered-right is a bad column to be in, it’s just that some aren’t exposed to the left’s point of view. You mentioned that you read some of the lefty sites. So, that gives you some exposure. I probably would too if I lived in a red state.
I enjoy hearing a liberals, and rarely a leftists, point of view. Some of them are very smart. Intelligence doesn’t necessarily mean being educated. I like to hear some angle I’ve never considered before, and then probably soundly reject it. I don’t get worked up because I’m around them all the time. Just ask EODmom, Marci, and Dr. Robert. They would probably say the same.
I have to disagree with one thing. Kamala Word-salad Harris is a dope. Her sheltered-left existence just makes it worse.
Great podcast guys. It’s now one of my three. I like What’s Bugging Me, Ricochet Podcast, and now The David Carter Show.
Thanks for the kind words!! I’m pleased to be mention in the same sentence as What’s Bugging Me, and the Ricochet Podcast. I have question please: It may be because I’ve got NyQuil on the brain (it’s the most wonderful time of the year…), but I’m having a hard time bringing the terms sheltered left and sheltered right into focus. Would you mind jotting down an example or of each?
Thanks much for listening to the show, and I’m gratified beyond words that you enjoyed it!
I think there are A LOT less sheltered right people.
Even if your whole family is conservative, you’re going to encounter leftist dogma somewhere in your life. If you’ve ever attended an American school or watched American television, or if you’ve ever met someone who has, you’re familiar with leftist thought.
There are some leftists who have never faced alternative ideologies.
There are very few conservatives like that.
Shoot, anybody that doesn’t work for themselves and certainly anybody that works with the public encounters leftist thought.
I completely agree the sheltered ends are disproportionate. Here are two examples:
Sheltered-left. Selena Gomez. Oh stop, that was too easy.
I have a family friend who is a retired sociology professor at some Boston College. He is also a community organizer. He is a sweet man who has done a lot of good for a lot of people. He has a great wife, a jerk of a dog, but generally a very intelligent person whose opinion I really don’t want to hear beyond the Patriots and good whiskey. He has an extremely sheltered existence as far as I know. To be fair I know he doesn’t want to hear mine.
Sheltered-right. I made a machine to make medical tubing for Merit Medical down by Galveston. I don’t bring up politics in front of customers. They brought it up first, so of course that set me free. When they heard I was a conservative from Massachusetts I felt like a new species of bug under a microscope. At least ten guys came out to eat with me at some incredible BBQ joint. Mainly because I was paying. The conversation was going out of control, which normally is okay. I forgot the discussion because it was so long ago, but whatever it was got my blood boiling. They were just idiotic statements.
Hey Texas, don’t take it personally. I love your country overall. It was just these knuckleheads.
Even in Texas you’re likely to find leftism in the larger cities.
Any long interview of David Mamet is worth listening to. Start with Joe Rogan. I love that guy.
The reason there is inequality is the central bank. They are constantly pushing the wealth effect instead of getting out of the way of profits and wages. Profits and wages represent the good life and survival. The wealth effect is just jacking up assets to get rich people–the already wealthy– to spend. It also makes people borrow for assets, which is nuts. Then they depreciate the debt, but people don’t really get ahead from it.
This never gets discussed, but the Soviets genuinely tried to run the whole system without interest rates. 0% interest rates, totally forced. We aren’t far off from that.
Public goods only. It has a definition. Some economist think that the government is 80% non-public goods. Non-public goods is how we steal from each other with government.
Stop suppressing interest rates and creating inflation.
I don’t see how libertarians and conservatives can get any traction unless we start talking like this.
