Today’s podcast examines the latest blowup in the Cultural Revolution overtaking journalism, as Slate defenestrates a staffer who actually did something woke—but thought it over first. Should we care, or does this mean no one is safe from this marauding band of cancellers? How about the Biden people trying to use ethnicity and gender to protect and advance the cause of a controversial appointee’s confirmation? And how did Biden do in commemorating the horror of half a million American lives lost to COVID? Give a listen.

Hmmm… Should we care about mind-locked Totalitarians who are always on the inevitable, historical path of fear implants, lies, dismissal, reputational harm, economic damage, absolute power, mind control, imprisonment, and finally mass slaughter?

Nah, let’s be good word-based conservatives/libertarians and argue ideas and strive for bipartisanship. There’s nothing to be concerned about…

Yeah, it has to go its logical conclusion

but the logical conclusion is that white woke liberals will realize there’s no quarter for them and it will be time to focus this only on conservatives or non-progressives

This is why they still grumble about Al Franken

I went to movies pretty much every weekend of my life pre-Covid.  I went to a cinema as soon as that was humanly possible.  See here.  I even rented out an entire screen in June.  I definitely went to see Wonder Woman, which was well attended, at Christmas.

The problem is that there are no new releases.

My husband and I did go see a Denzel Washington flick, The Little Things, a few weeks back.  Why?  I like Denzel Washington, and it wasn’t a rerun. The Tom Hanks film just looked boring.  I mean… just… too bleak and boring.  I didn’t see it purely because of that… not Covid.

There are people paralyzed by fear.  I don’t relate to them at all.  I mean… at all.  But I didn’t relate to them way back in March 2020 when I was consuming every news I could about the virus, weighing all the risks that I could see, taking the whole thing quite seriously…

I saw The Little Things and liked it. I too chose to watch it because of Denzel Washington. But I watched it at home on my big TV with the fireplace going and a nice glass of Chardonnay. So much nicer than a movie theater.

I hear you.  I enjoy the experience of going out and watching on a giant screen, but I am sure your wine was nicer than my nachos.  :)

Also, while I don’t hold actors’ views against them either way–a courtesy that I know would not be returned by some–I like a lot of things Washington says in public… the advice he’s given at commencement ceremonies, for instance.  It’s nice that he cares about his family and God.  I have no idea about his politics, really, but he seems a lot closer to having more traditional values than most people I can think of who are working in films.  He seems like a real guy.
