In the second of this week’s COMMENTARY podcasts, the crew (John Podhoretz, Abe Greenwald, and Noah Rothman) ask whether the president might be relaxing into his job—and whether this means he knows now that he doesn’t have to fulfill every agenda item at once but can take them on over the course of the next four years. And then the crew delves into the horror on college campuses and the grudging acknowledgment by the mainstream media that things are bad for free speech there—which, of course, they blame in part on bad conservatives. Give a listen.

This was once one of my favorite podcasts.  Recently, it’s morphed into the “watch John Podhoretz walk all over his employees as they cower in the corner” podcast. :(

@johnpodhoretz I nodded at your comment about not wanting to send your kids to college – “maybe the service academies.”

Our child #1 is 20 and college material, but not cut out for the military. She’s a good debater and an excellent writer. She is choosing not to continue college after a poli sci asssociates degree. She has a good full-time job in a company that treats women well; we don’t expect her back in our basement anytime soon.

She isn’t continuing college because she’s paid as she’s gone so far – with help from us and her 529 college savings account which we started at her birth and has not kept up with inflation – and she’s scared to death of mountains of college debt. I am sorry she’s leaving the academy early because she is suited to it. The times, however, aren’t suited to her.

Maybe she’ll take MOOCs later, like HarvardX’s Justice. I took it a year or two ago and it was terrific.

Unless he matures overnight, Child #2 is not going to be ready for college at 18, but he’s quite gung ho and already we’re talking about seeing all the military recruiters when he’s a junior. He’s definitely one I can see giving four years to Uncle Sam in exchange for an education. He also could stay and make it his career.

Child #3 is only 11, so we shall see.

John is a brilliant guy. And I like him. But, he takes way too much air-time. Let your colleagues speak w/o interrupting so often.
