Henry Olsen, election-watcher extraordinaire, joins us today to analyze the results of the interesting South Carolina primary and the fact that across three Republican primary contests, Donald Trump is winning decisively, even overwhelmingly—but with around 40 percent of the primary electorate choosing someone else (mostly Nikki Haley). What does this portend for November? Give a listen.

I’m sorry but there is literally nothing new in this podcast. Henry Olsen has been saying this same thing for months. Yes…Donald Trump has issues in the general and there is a very good chance that he will not beat Biden…it does not matter….this is not the election…it is February not the week after Labor Day. A majority of Republican voters want Donald Trump as the nominee…end thread…mic drop…nothing else matters right now. I’m sorry Matt but the Republican Party is not split….if it were then Nikki Haley would have more than 3 delegates after 4 primaries…for good or ill (and I think ill…I am not a Trump supporter in the primary) the vast majority of Republicans want Donald Trump…deal with it. They get to pick their nominee.

If you are so concerned about it get out of your zoom room and get out and campaign for Nikki Haley….I am so sick of listening to you and the Editors from NR moan and groan about how stupid people are and how this is some huge crisis…if it is such a huge crisis and the you are so concerned about being without a party do something…quit being a commentator for a year and get out there and “take back” the party…I mean you were in control of it for 50 years…quit moaning and get out there and do something about it….I’m sorry…doing a podcast and writing some articles is not going to move the needle…you are in your own bubble.

Here’s a thought…why not some podcasts on how you and Jonah, David French, Mike Pence, NR et al lost control of the party…and I mean go deeper than saying its just the stupid non college educated….seriously do a deep dive on why Donald Trump took over the party….but you won’t…its much easier just to say the conservative voters aren’t serious etc etc….

And btw….If by some chance Nikki Haley does get the nomination….by the first of October she will be called Donald Trump in a dress. The Washington Post has already sent up the first ballon on calling her racist for switching high schools when she was a sophomore….so there would be that to look forward to.

or at least admit some of the policies pushed by NR was wrong (e.g. the war in Iraq, outsourcing the supply chain to the CCP, the blind trust in the CIA/FBI/DOJ).

I have to agree with the above posts. I listen to this podcast because I enjoy hearing the NY perspective (grew up in the area).  I am the proverbial white suburban college-educated woman and I detest the casual pejoratives that John, in particular, throws out at the MAGA crowd (naturally pronounced as a  short-A “Mahgah”).  I fit into Henry Olsen’s group that would prefer neither candidate. Count me as one person who will hold her nose and vote for Trump. I have no doubt that I am largely a unicorn in my demographic group. It would be nice if the Commentary crew could consider the policy differences rather than the personalities. From my perspective both candidates are woefully inadequate on personality. Policy was much better under Trump.

It’s not the same Trump and Covid was a disaster under Trump. I held my nose and voted for him in 2020. Then came the aftermath and I came to regret that vote. Won’t do it again. If the primary voters are so set on a Biden/Trump rematch so be it. But I will sit it out and only vote down ticket to keep Texas red.
