On the first of this week’s two COMMENTARY podcasts, we discuss how the nightmarishly bad polling for Donald Trump doesn’t necessarily translate into bad polling for the GOP itself—and how the possible election-day repudiation of Trump may not bring the Republicans who are fleeing in disgust from Trump back into the fold just yet. Also how Hillary Clinton may enter office under clouds the likes of which no incoming president has ever been cast in shadow. Give a listen.

Looks as though the audio file is bugged out. I can’t access it on the player here or through iTunes. The Soundcloud link works fine though.

John, Abe, Noah – please stay away from tax advice.  You’re out of your depth.  That’s not how the gift tax works.  The donor is required to report and — for gifts over $14,000 (not $11K, that was the threshold about a decade ago) — pay gift tax.  The recipient can accept the money with no tax consequences.

Congress is not helpless in the face of Obama. The executive cannot spend a dime without Congressional approval. Unfortunately, Congress gave up trying to control spending some years ago. Can you blame them? If they actually faced down Obama over a government shutdown it might cost them some votes in the next election, and we can’t have that.

So Congress contents itself with symbolic votes about defunding Obamacare, while rubber stamping current levels of spending. Having ceded the power of the purse, Congress is indeed truly impotent.

You say you fixed it, Yeti, but I still can’t see it, either here or on iTunes.  I’ve been trying since yesterday.

@karenhumiston  You may need to unsubscribe from the show and re-subscrobe to it. Some podcast apps are not good about clearing their caches by themselves. You can also use the player at the top of this post or follow this link to the SoundCloud player.

Thanks, Yeti.  I’m getting it now on iTunes — but still not here on Ricochet!  Here it shows both the beginning and ending time as 00:00.  Not surprisingly, it ends just as it begins.
