What is driving the political world’s fixation with the president even as he has largely ceded the spotlight to his rival? Is it Trump’s still menacing but largely banal self-affirmations on Twitter, or is Joe Biden just such an unenthusiastic prospect for the left that they are milking the final weeks of the Trump era for all they are worth?

I wonder if I’m the only one who has become obsessed with the show’s opening and introductions. John always says “Hi Christine/Abe/Noah” and they always reply simply with “Hi, John”. Never “Hello” or Good Morning, John”, ever ever ever. Not once. Is it intentional? Would it kill them to say something different just one time?
I know, this couldn’t be less important and I likely have an OCD issue. But like a grammatical error, once you hear it, you can’t stop hearing it. (You’re welcome)
Jon had almost everything wrong about the Fischer-Spassky 1972 match. First, Fischer wasn’t so crazy in 1972. He was odd and said a few things that rose eyebrows back then, but he didn’t go full conspiracy theory nut until years later. Second, they games were nowhere near 3 hours per move. The rate was more like 5 minutes a move (150 minutes to pay first 40, 60 minutes for each 16 moves thereavter), although individual moves could vary. Last, Spassky never claimed that anyone was using beams to affect his play. One of his coaches said some things along those lines, but I don’t believe that Spassky ever acknowledged this, although maybe the Soviet authorities pushed him to agree at some point.
I actually like the cadence of their opening greetings, and I like that it never changes. My ear expects each “Hi John,” and my mouth involuntarily says it along with them as they check in. It’s like a soothing constant in this cold world.
Really, the blockback in 2018 is chiefly about the ineffective ‘Muslim’ ban? Come on, be serious.
Democrats get their money from wokey rich people. It might be suicide for the Democrats to impose left wing policies, but it is also suicide for the Democrats if they don’t keep their rich, leftist donors happy.
