I love this podcast. It does set me a little on edge, though.
Me too.
It’s fun to listen to the befuddled “but this is not how we did it in the 1980’s!” talk.
Too much on Trump being crazy, and not enough speculation that he’s just stupid (uninformed if you want to be PC). Lack of temperament is a forgone conclusion.
Another thing that wasn’t discussed was a primary v Trump. Why not if his poll numbers make re-election impossible? Carter was, but unsuccessfully. This base, often referred to, might be reduced if he continues to screw up. They have their own share of savvy politicians. And Republicans on tickets around the country would have to run like hell away from him.
Overall I liked the podcast. Always do.
I keep trying, but this podcast exhausts me. I stopped counting how many times I heard; “what if………………?, what if …………….?”. These guys have their bases covered for any potential outcome or action. I can’t wait until I listen to future podcasts and have them boldly proclaim how they predicted something months ago. This election has been a great equalizer. I no longer have the same respect for the many pundits I have followed over the years. Many are hysterical or lack clarity in their thought. These gentlemen are bright and articulate, but no more prescient than any other well-informed citizen.
I never really understood the yiddish word “kvetch” until I listened to this podcast. Thanks Commentary podcast!
Example of how Sessions’ testimony is not lying as Mr. Podhoretz inaccurately stated in this podcast:
Q: How much money did you make last year?
A: 50 grand.
Q: Really? Your gross income last year was exactly $50,000.00?
A: No, actually I made $51,123.38.
Q: Ah-ha! Liar!
Although his answer was not precisely accurate, it should be obvious that Sessions was not lying. Sen. Franken asked him what he would do if it were discovered that members of the Trump campaign had met with “the Russians”. That question clearly refers to clandestine meetings — not publicly known, not public meetings — rather, meetings that would need to be discovered through future investigation. That description does not apply to the meetings Sessions had with the Russian ambassador.
