As the new year begins, the podcast looks with wonder and horror at the really insane start of the new Congress, in the hands of a tiny Republican majority—and controlled, it seems, by a tiny minority within the majority that wants to see the world burn. Give a listen.

No, John, Trump was not “literally playing with fire”. You’re a writer – you ought to know the meaning of the word “literally”. Don’t use the word if you don’t know what it means.

Been listening daily for over a year now. Despite all 4 of you generally being insightful and learned individuals, it never ceases to shock me how spineless some of your conclusions are.

Democrats are united with the uniparty.
Republicans are split with 19 in the House having some principle and the rest aligned with the uniparty.

Can you explain more how shutting down the gov is bad?
Like oh no, gov employees we don’t need don’t get paid, maybe we get a balanced budget, maybe we can all realize how useless 95% of the gov is.

You guys could reflect on how all of you tend towards debasing the vigilant and manly spirit with silly uniparty appeals to the way thigs are.

FP57 “If it be asked, what is to restrain the House of Representatives from making legal discriminations in favor of themselves and a particular class of the society? I answer: the genius of the whole system; the nature of just and constitutional laws; and above all, the vigilant and manly spirit which actuates the people of America, a spirit which nourishes freedom, and in return is nourished by it. If this spirit shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate any thing but liberty.” FP57
