Hitler’s aversion to chemical warfare was more than generalized horror.  He was temporarily blinded by mustard gas a month before the Armistice.

How would life for Republicans have been better with the Rube Goldbergian Border Adjustment Tax?

On the one hand, JPod comments (rightly to my mind) that the tax was not a good idea.  It was clumsy, difficult to implement, and would have started out the administration with a negative economic impact rather than positive one.

On the other hand, however, it would have been a plus because “Trump would have been living up to his promise to outsource policy to Ryan”?

I understand Ryan’s bona fides on fiscal restraint, but the BAT was not a good idea and we were better off without it.

I think he meant to say Trump would have been living up to his promise to pay make Mexico pay for the wall (since the tax was intended to fund that), but he kind of stepped on his own words.

I can see that perspective now that you mention it – although if I recall correctly it was that US consumers would have ultimately borne the cost of that tax that scuttled it.

Either way, there will always be more news in a few minutes so no need to worry over this too much.  Thanks.
