Another pitfall of reparations….what of the 30% population of freed people of African descent in Pre-Civil War America of which a percentage were “truly aristocracy” and some owning African slaves themselves. Then a high percentage of that freed population post 1864 would not allow freed men and freed women into their neighborhoods, shops, or churches….do their descendants get reparations?
The history of the United States is complicated and nuanced….every group has practiced segregation against another group or even against their own group in some fashion….again…the institutions always need critiquing and reformed but the stuff coming out now has a total lack of historical knowledge….
Here on the “Walk-Ins Welcome w/ Bridget Phetasy” podcast there was a black guy ( @Coach_Tea ) who said something about how a much higher percentage of free black Americans owned slaves than white Americans.
Most of the points he made were very good and less shocking as that though.
