Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
In the first of this week’s podcasts, we discuss the question of why and whether Donald Trump will, in fact, divest himself of the Trump Organization and the fact that he is now in the position of picking and choosing which policies he can attempt to put into effect since his candidacy did not rest on policy prescriptions.
Also, why the liberal culture’s refusal to be magnanimous in its victory has led the Democratic party to its present parlous state. Give a listen.

I respect Mr Podhoretz a great deal – but I think he is way off on Trump. The man has spent all his life trying to build on his father’s legacy – sometimes failing and sometimes not. He can’t let go of his real estate holdings – it’s deep in his inner core – and despite the fact that others could have done better with what he had been given – it is what makes him whom he is. Or who. Sorry.
Mr. Podhoretz also doesn’t really know what happened in 2016. To be fair, no one does.
You might be right. Trump might feel like devoting 100 percent of his energies to the job of the presidency is beneath him. For Trump, business is his passion and politics is just a hobby, less important than golf.
Or perhaps not. Perhaps as Mr. Podhoretz said, Trump’s ego will require that he make his presidency a successful one and this will persuade him to sell all his businesses so that he can focus entirely on the presidency. We will know within six months which Trump is the real Trump.
How many votes for impeachment would there be if Trump did give away the Baltic nations to Russia in exchange for some favorable business dealings?
I am taking a break from The Commentary Magazine Podcast, or as I like to think of it, The Hemlock Podcast. The doom and gloom it spreads on a semi-weekly basis is not conducive to the joy, peace and love I wish to cultivate during the holiday season. Perhaps in 2017, if I’m ever feeling suicidal and I need that little extra push to get me over the edge, I’ll start listening again.
Totally relate….except about the re-start thing.
I don’t know, I enjoy it. But then, I do not look to politics for my happinesss.
I was going to give it a try, but you helped me make my decision.
I hope the authors of this particular podcast realize that there might be goodness and progress in the world.
Because, to be fair, Trump has actually been kinda conservative so far.
Yeah, but it’s going to take some time to convince them. Podhoretz, after all, is the descendent of Jews who believed that the doctrines of Marx were going to make things much better, and they have seen how that turned out.
There’s a saying in Yiddish, “After you burn [your mouth] on something hot, you blow twice on cold.”
Prudence and skepticism are not bad things.
