The revelations of backchannel Iranian-Obaman efforts to skirt sanctions and worries about what might happen at the summit with North Korea next week begin our podcast. Then we enter the virtual dorm room with a long conversation about the Enlightenment and its enemies. Give a philosophical listen.

Absolutely love conversations about philosophy and values, and it pains me to know this is a minority opinion.

The first half of today’s show was good, as always. But the second half was sublime. So here’s hoping you guys will carve out time for this sort of high-minded, instructive, stimulating, and, in its own way, exciting dialectic in the future.  (Maybe a few times a month?) Thanks!

Great conversation about enlightenment philosophy. I’m halfway through Jonah’s book and enjoying it. His long interview on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show was interesting too. One of your best podcasts – better than some of the Remnant!

Most of us learn so little about this sort of stuff in school.  History is a big topic though, and some of us forget the little that we did learn.  I think I’ve learned more history the last decade or so just having wikipedia and similar sources at my fingertips.

I think people will listen as long as they are learning new things in an interesting way.  An occasional rest from the constant love or hate Trump stuff on the conservative side would probably do everyone some good.

The Remnant is great, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Commentary Magazine Podcast.  Can you do the Commentary Magazine Podcast three times a week?

Agreed.  But why only an occasional rest?

Heh, I was joking. Podhoretz and Goldberg have a grudge match going… just throwing fuel on the fire…

With respect to this excellent discussion about the Enlightenment: MORE LIKE THIS PLEASE!

This is not to say that I don’t appreciate the Commentary team’s lock on the 5th order of political speculation–because I do enjoy it–but this kind of discussion is hard to come by on the internet.
