    I think that a lot of Democrat leaders believed their own press releases and truly thought a lot of Republican leaders were not concerned about the debt limit.  This gave the Republicans a distinct advantage.

    A good staff can accomplish much, but on the big issues, the leader needs to be closely involved.  This also helped the Republicans.
