I think what Noah misses is that two things can be true: first, that the Constitution vests absolute power in the president to declassify documents; and that second, the president can grossly abuse that power. So the question is then remedy. It probably is not enforcement of a statute. If I’m understanding the statute, it is probably unconstitutional as applied to the president. The only remedy at this point is probably a political one, although the legal issues of whether the current president–with whom the power now resides–can re-classify documents is a really interesting one. I suspect that the courts would side with the current president and note that, upon reclassification, Trump has a duty to return the documents.
In any event, I think Noah suffers from the impediment of finding it unthinkable that a president could so cavalierly handled sensitive documents. But of course he may, and if Pres. Biden is in office much longer, he’ll probably start revealing classified information from the podium (if he hasn’t already). It’s why we want reliable people in the executive branch. It’s an office with such incredible power.
Incidentally, it’s also what makes the HRC and Trump circumstances different. HRC had no power to declassify documents. Trump did.
I think JPod was right when he said it was not about Trump, it was about the 74 million people who voted for Trump. I, Noah and I suspect a lot of others want Trump to never run again. I really don’t want to be in a position to have to vote for Trump again as I found myself in 2020. My reasoning then was that Trump is bad but Biden and the clown show administration is much worse. This ridiculous raid will likely only serve to energize MAGA people and encourage Trump to run again. I believe Democrats think their only hope is for Trump to run again. But they should beware. Because if I’m forced to choose between any Democrat contender and Trump, I will vote for Trump because the raid has convinced me that leaving the top of my ballot blank would be to risk handing the Democrat clown show another 4 years. I suspect there are a lot of others who feel the same. Probably enough to put Trump back in the White House.
“When you no longer believe the official story you’ll believe anything!”
Really? Just because we’ve smoked out one set of liars we’ll fall for literally any other liar who lies to us? My oh my it must be some major moral failing on our part, us not being suckers for the official lies.
