Great podcast! John’s absence is always felt, of course, but Abe, Christine and Noah acquitted themselves wonderfully. They always do.
On a side note, it’s interesting that whenever Noah assumes host duties for John, he deigns to omit the phrase “…from a Conservative perspective” from the podcast intro.
If it happened once or twice, we could chalk it up to forgetfulness. But he has done it every single time, which makes it, in all likelihood, a conscious decision.
Now, Noah is enormously bright and there’s no question he is right-of-center on most issues. And even if he wasn’t, there’s no question that Commentary Magazine is. So one wonders why he’d be making this choice.
So, after half an hour of neoconservative nonsense, Noah brings up the reality that on North Korea, there actually isn’t a lot for America to do. Apparently two decades (three?) of a failed sanctions strategy isn’t enough. But, Abe wants more. This is why they need John.
Oh, and now Noah’s going on about “this is what you get when you say your political opponents are the enemy.” So, after five years of an explosion of ethnic conflict, Noah still insists on viewing the situation through a narrow factional lens. Northeastern neoliberals have done quite a bit to stoke ethnic conflict in the past few years, and that includes the conservatives (John Podhoretz is something of an exception, Noah is not).
But more importantly, the underlying causes of social conflict in America are very real, and our elite are totally uninterested in figuring out how to deal with them. You can’t wish away social conflict. I’m sorry, but no amount of conflict-aversion by the upper middle class is going to make this all go away.
Must be Noah’s internet is better than John’s as everyone comes in clearer
that said, learning to pot down the music after the intro is a must.
More when I’ve heard the content :)
Noah takes baths in Early Grey tea? I knew he was out there, but this just takes the cake! And does anyone doubt that China is any less harsh to its citizens and yet everyone says he must work and dialogue with them? Please.
I’m trying to reconcile “This isn’t diplomacy” with “no one wants war”
I’m glad to see that the crew can achieve crushing morosity even when John isn’t around.
