Hoover Institution fellow and award-winning historian Victor Davis Hanson joins the Manhattan Institute’s Troy Senik to discuss the presidency of Donald Trump and Hanson’s new book, The Case for Trump.
Hanson argues that our 45th president alone has the instinct and energy to upset the balance of American politics. “We could not survive a series of presidencies as volatile as Trump’s,” he writes, “but after decades of drift, America needs the outsider Trump to do what normal politicians would not and could not do.”

I was not a Trump supporter at the beginning, but have come to be good with him. However, giving him credit for the low unemployment rate among African Americans is too generous. That’s the state of the economy today. We have a fairly low unemployment – provided you use the reported rate and ignore the long term unemployed numbers. Either way, though, this is really mostly just a continuation of what already was, and I’m not sure how much would be different with a President Hillary or what President Trump can claim to have done to enable this. Maybe the tax cut and the rolling back of various regulations have helped but it’s hard to know for sure.
