So now the Senate has acquitted President Trump on both articles of impeachment. It is the end of a Senate trial marked by wild predictions and intense speculation. So with it all over, it’s time to look at the things that were said about the trial — Republicans will defect! John Roberts will take charge! — and judge them against what actually happened. Plus: Is anyone surprised by Mitt Romney’s decision to vote to convict the president on one article? Not if they’ve been watching Romney for more than a couple of minutes. And finally: The prediction I got wrong.

The only thing that Chief Justice Roberts did was deny Rand Paul’s right to ask any question he wanted.

Oh, Byron, you are such a shill for Trump! How can you doubt the sincerity and integrity of Mitt? ;) Great podcast as always. Still one of my favorite real journalists!

Isn’t that what “no” votes are? In regular courts too, there is never a verdict of “innocent.” Just “not guilty.”

Was Byron trying to be a Romney apologist?

At 13:10 he says Romney has shown an ability to “adapt his positions” according to the target audience.

Also known as unprincipled. Flip-flopping. etc.

I wouldn’t call that an argument for Romney. Would you?
