The calls started in the last months of the Trump administration, when revelations about his activities, and suspicion that his father, President Joe Biden, might have been involved, began to emerge.

    If Barr can stop patting himself on the back for a moment …

    If he really wants to depoliticize the justice system, the first step is to treat Democrats the same way Republicans are treated.

    Otherwise, the Democrats simply have no motive to reform anything.

    The Republicans unilaterally trying to maintain norms and traditions that the Democrats routinely violate merely encourages the Democrats to go on violating them.

    You may recall, the independent council statute stayed on the books as long as it was a weapon to be wielded against Republican administrations. The moment it began to be used against a Democratic administration, it was allowed to lapse.
