He was the first modern Republican, says Robert W. Merry in his new biography, President McKinley: Architect of the American Century.
In a 10-minute conversation with The Bookmonger, Merry argues McKinley is more important than most people recognize; that his lack of recognition is partly the fault of his colorful successor, Theodore Roosevelt; and that McKinley pioneered a form of “non-colonial imperialism” that holds lessons for American foreign policy today.

Talk about the forgotten men and women, as Trump does, McKinley seems to be one of them.
I haven’t listened to this yet, but it sounds very interesting; so I will.
I also wanted to comment on your comment on the Star Wars Thread, about the newest one. I didn’t wanna put it there, because I’ve not seen the movie, and haven’t really been involved since the original trilogy, which I very much enjoyed. Anyway, your comment about others commenting with “Liking” applies to many posts. This bothers me, I must say. I can’t understand why people do this. But I stopped trying to figure out people long, long ago!
I’m not surprised to hear that the editor of The American Conservative is critical of George W. Bush’s foreign policy.
I’m really not familiar with this publication. Thanks for telling me about it, Texmoor. I went to their website, and I am still trying to figure out what they think.
I am sort of tired of Bush being criticized for Iraq. They forget what a hash Obama made out of it, and the fact that, before he interfered, there may have been a better Middle East to come out of it. It was by no means assured, but Bush tried. Now, we will never know.
I liked your comment.
Thanks, Fred. I just think it is wrong to make a comment without “liking”. Liking doesn’t always mean agreement. Usually. But, the way I look at it, it means it was a good post, which made you think.
