Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Amy Wax and Larry Alexander, professors of law at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of San Diego, respectively, wrote an op-ed recently which argued that not all cultures are equal. In response, many of their colleagues in higher education went berserk. Bill interviews Prof. Wax about the op-ed and the controversy that erupted. Then Bill talks with Congressman Ron DeSantis about his proposal to rein in the Mueller investigation and stop it from turning into a witch hunt out to get Pres. Trump. Finally, Bill and Brian Kennedy discuss how Pres. Trump has handled the major crises before him, particularly Hurricane Harvey and the continued aggression of North Korea.

For 50 years conservatives have been complaining about the radicalized professoriate; and for 50 years they have done absolutely nothing about it. They were content to have “islands of repression in a sea of freedom” — as if the repression would stay limited to those “islands”.
Meanwhile the left saw the universities as merely the first step in what what they call the “march through institutions”.
I have no solution, either. But I would suggest keeping track of these rabid petition signers so that, when they are inevitably nominated for posts in future Democratic administrations, their intolerant words can come back to haunt them.
One of the least true “truisms” of my lifetime was the one that held that young people — marinated in decades of Leftism from K-12 and then on into college and then, in many cases, into graduate school — would summarily and almost magically simply cast off (Voila!) all of their Progressive indoctrination when they emerged out into the real world.
To the folks who held this view (i.e., nearly all Conservatives), the equation went something like:
Job + Spouse + Children = Conservative!! (Hooray!!)
But the Left’s indoctrination is much too complete now … it penetrates far too deeply … and young people no longer seem inclined to shuffle off their Progressive coil.
And my gosh, are we really that surprised by this??
Thank you for the privilege of hearing what this beautifully intelligent man has to say.
I read the article before listening to the podcast. It is irrefutable. What Professor Wax wrote is superb and dead on point. My more than 40 years in public education would have been far easier and far more successful if the people whose children I worked with had adopted the values of our society. This article is long overdue.
