Andrew Walker, the Director of Policy Studies at the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission joins National Review’s David French to discuss his new book, God and the Transgender Debate. They discuss the coming clash between parents and the state, how the state is forcing a change in language, and the near impossibility of civil debate on trans issues.

A year or so before I retired I was forced to attend a workshop during school hours held in my building. A substitute teacher was sent to cover my class for the time I was at that meeting. The person was a transgender only partway into his/her transition. The most apt description I can come up with is that this person looked like a Viking with boobs. He was likely in his mid-thirties to early forties. He had long blond hair, a very noticeable 5 o’clock shadow at 9 AM, stood about 6′ tall, and had very broad shoulders. Added to this very masculine appearance was a set of breasts that I would estimate were a C cup size.

At the time of this event I had been teaching self-contained special education classes for middle school students categorized as Emotionally/Behaviorally Disabled. The effect of this person on my students was, in a word, devastating. I told the principal about the problem. He seemed to agree with me that sending this person was very poor judgment. However, a month later when I was coerced into attending another useless workshop, the same substitute was sent again to cover my class.

This is pretty insane to my way of thinking. However, in listening to the podcast I am reminded that besides being a substitute teacher this person could very easily become a participant in athletic events in which he/she could claim to be a woman. In my 72 and a half years on the earth I have seen a lot of burly women, but I would venture to say that none would be able to match this individual in strength. This was a large man, a powerful man who under the current code could easily be passed off as a woman. The absurdity of this goes beyond reckoning. The absurdity that a man can become a woman is just a little less absurd. That the rest of us are to be forced to not just accept but actually express approval of this goes well into the realm of the ridiculous. It is time for adults to take over the governance of this country and remove the children currently in office. Enough is enough!
