I really love your podcasts, yet I find your love/hate relationship with Trump incongruous. You acknowledge that he is the right guy, at the right time; that the Press created his meanness, which is the exact requirement needed to blast the invisible Democratic shield. And yet you really dislike him. For you, he is simply the game piece, perhaps the Rambo character in your game, that can destroy the enemy. Instead of embracing him as your hero, you denigrate him as a mean guy. I think he has a great sense of humor, an incredible compassion for people, and an unbridled love for the USA. It is also appropriate to acknowledge, that the the left and the press (but I repeat myself) went low long before Trump did. Trump and all that support him are the deplorables, the gun totin, ignorant rubes, the racists, the misogynists, the xxxists. He is merely reacting at their level. He also, when attacked, counter punches with a throat punch. His attackers do not recover. We need this guy, who has a passion for the USA, and who throat punches his attackers. I find it incongruous that you know all things things, and yet find him so reprehensible.

I don’t find it incongruous. Trump is such weird dude it’s hard to imagine not having incongruous feelings towards him.

Same. Trump is not how I want all my Presidents to act. But for the time, and with a culture/media 95 percent only concerned with taking out Republicans, he’s the tool we need.

Drew’s “Republicans are judged on their morality, Democrats on their political effectiveness” should be a paradigm shifter, and other hosts and columnists should pick it up so it becomes almost canon for our arguments.

Paradigm shifter in what way? By giving credit to someone who is politically effective, even if his morality upsets some? Works for me.

Our punditry doesn’t get that. They view Trump as a vulgarian poisoning the well. Watch, in 4 years the David French types will prop up a boy scout like Ben Sasse and maybe he’s able to get by a Haley or Pence. Then the media’s going to start dogwhistling he’s a racist Nazi too and instead of fighting back, he’ll get defensive and the French types will blame Trump and his followers for this when ANY Republican who thinks the Romney/McCain “I’m not going to say bad things” playbook will fail. Their candidates don’t need to go low because the media will do it for them.
