Obama Administration Outs Israel’s Nuclear Program
There seems to be no end to the damage President Obama will inflict upon the nation of Israel. While wooing a genocidal regime in Tehran, this administration has treated our staunchest Middle East ally with a mix of pettiness, contempt and rage.
Following Benjamin Netanyahu’s huge election victory, Obama grumbled that it was time to “reassess” America’s relationship with Israel. Monday he began that effort when, for the first time ever, the U.S. delegation refused to speak in defense of Israel at the UN Human Rights Council. The council was adhering to the sinister-sounding Agenda Item 7, which mandates the discussion of “Israeli human rights violations” at every meeting.
Now the administration has shifted from mere rhetoric and diplomatic maneuvers to irreparable harm. The Jewish Press revealed that the U.S. has declassified Top Secret intelligence on Israel’s nuclear program:
The United States has just revealed a stunning amount of information on some of Israel’s the most closely guarded secrets: information about its military cooperation with America and 20 years’ worth of details on Israel’s nuclear technology development, up to the 1980s.
The 386-page report, composed in 1987 by the federally funded Institute for Defense Analysis, (an NGO that operates under the Pentagon), is titled “Critical Technological Assessment in Israel and NATO Nations.”
It was declassified by the Pentagon in early February – but oddly, the report has been redacted so as to black out or withhold everything the Institute wrote on America’s NATO allies – but to reveal all that American experts assembled in Israel.
Interestingly, no one reported the declassification other than two hostile news agencies that apparently were tipped off: Russia’s Putin-funded RT network and Iran’s mullah-funded Press TV. The Weekly Standard explains why this report’s release is such a big deal:
Israel has never admitted to having nuclear weapons. To do so might spark a regional nuclear arms race, and eventual nuclear confrontation.
The declassification is a serious breach of decades’ old understandings concerning this issue between Israel and its north American and certain European allies.
The Pentagon’s February declassification coincided with intense pressure on the Netanyahu government by the Obama administration, trying to force the Israeli prime minister to cancel a planned speech to Congress questioning the wisdom of a highly risky nuclear deal with the Iranian regime.
However, in the past 24 hours several media in the U.S. and elsewhere have now chosen to report on the February declassification by the Pentagon. This coincides with stepped up efforts this week by the Obama administration to weaken Israel’s deterrent capabilities, including leaking to the Wall Street Journal incorrect allegations that Israel directly spies on the U.S.
Consider me unsurprised that the guy who smiled and nodded his way through two decades of anti-semitic sermons and is friends with Israel haters like Rashid Khalidi and Bill Ayers is doing everything he can to undermine that nation. I wouldn’t be surprised by year’s end to see Obama refer to Israel as “the Zionist entity.”
It will be interesting to watch politically savvy Democrats distance themselves from Obama’s intensifying assault on the Middle East’s only democracy. Hopefully they won’t wait for Iran to get nukes before speaking up.
Question for the comment section: Why should any ally trust the U.S. government now?
Published in Foreign Policy
Unbelievable in one way, but what does this really change? Everyone knew Israel had nukes, and acted accordingly.
I still want to know why we shouldn’t assume, and Israel doesn’t assume, that Iran already had nukes, be they purchased from Pakistan, the Norks or someone else.
I also would like to know the extent to which a nuclear arsenal can be built without actual nuclear testing.
I had an uncle who was very liberal but he was also one of the most antisemitic men I have ever known. He couldn’t begin to explain why. He was not a stupid person, in fact he bordered on genius. No one else in the family was like him. I just don’t understand the hate that is apparent in Obama for Jews and Israel.
I repeat – the Obama Administration regarding Iran on Syria, Iraq, ISIS, Terrorism, Israel, and Nuclear Proliferation, is implementing the Dover Boys Doctrine:
We still have allies?
Why should we trust anyone in the US government? I see criminals, liars, manipulators, apathy, and general incompetence. Now don’t even get me started on the democrats.
Obama is a vile racist Jew Hater. Expect things to get worse.
Obama is the focus, perhaps, but let’s not kid each other. For him to get away with this stuff, there have to be a whole lot of people in this administration who feel the same way.
I saw this item on Hot Air earlier, who pointed out that this report had been around for a while, and the new wrinkle here is only that Obama had it declassified. Still, whether it’s a huge issue or a small skirmish in a family feud … this seems to a completely petty, juvenile example when we need adult statesmanship.
It’s time for Israel to announce a nuclear umbrella over the area for any nation opposed to Iran getting nuclear weapons. To replace the one we know the US will no longer honor.
They might consider taking up donations for the cause.
Within 24 hours, the US government will trash Israel and declare they have no nuclear capability……
I just don’t understand why Congress doesn’t remove Obama from office.
So frustrating.
I’m Jewish. I feel fine about Obama. And most Jews, contrary to what many people on this website want, support the Democrats.
Why is Iran assumed to be trying for a nuclear weapon before such an admission or declassified documentation from the US becoming available?
Unfathomable.
Additionally, Israel has already admitted to having nuclear weapons.
What a friggin cry baby we have in our White House. I am truly ashamed he is our president. The world is degenerating around us and he’s obsessed with Israel? Can our country and the world bear 22 more months of this A-H?
Just another day during the Obama Administration.
Manny & Jon,
I will repeat a few lines from my comment on Mona’s post to answer the question.
If and when there is unshakable resolve to be rid of him then the 22 month collective purgatory can be shortened.
Regards,
Jim
Will you be fine if the Jewish state disappears?
I am glad you noted this. My perception is that most Jewish people in the U.S. seem quite comfortable with Obama and the Democrats, and our current relationship with Israel. I trust you understand something about Israel and Obama that I do not comprehend.
Virus… I don’t doubt what you are saying, but it still shocks me. I am surrounded by liberal Jews who voted for this mess, twice. Even THEY are now starting to wake up and realize this man-child does not support Israel. He only supports a liberal Israel.
This legacy ‘deal’ he is desperately seeking is bad for the entire region and will lead to a middle east nuclear arms race.
How any thinking Jew can support this, I don’t know.
Would you support the rescinding of UN Resolution 242 as Obama has? Would that leave Israel in a defensible position, indefensible position or incredibly difficult and expensive position to constantly defend?
Curiously, the most anti-semitic comments I have heard came from very liberal, solid Democrats. It seems to go with the territory.
Can you indicate the specific aspects of Obama’s foreign policy with which you don’t agree or are you fine with all of it?
Were you fine with the Obama administration’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt?
Are you fine with how the Obama administration characterizes that their policy in Yemen – which has disintegrated into chaos much of it fueled by Iranian-backed Houthi factions and has the potential to become a much larger war – is a success?
My take on why so many liberal Jews are willing to give Obama a pass on his obvious antipathy to Israel is because, like many liberals of all persuasions, they love him, and thus are unwilling to see any fault in him. According to them he doesn’t hate Jews. He has Jewish advisors (David Axelrod, David Plouffe, Rahm Emanuel, Jack Lew, Tony Blinken, Gene Sperling, Lawrence Summers, to name a few.) He supports Israel, just not Netanyahu. He only wants what is in the long-term interest of the Israeli people, which he knows better than they do.
If might take something as dramatic as Israel going up in smoke (God forbid) for them to come to their senses.
Basic devices, especially enriched uranium ones, can certainly be built without testing.
Please do not forget that Liberal Jews are Liberal FIRST, and everything else later.
Gentleman,
This isn’t just about Israel’s survival much less the obliviousness of highly soul anesthetized American Jews. This is about a massive foreign policy blunder. The stupidity of Libya, the Arab Spring, and Syria is confounded by the lunacy of an Iran appeasement policy. Iran is a Jihadist State. Obama could have ended it as a Jihadist State without a war in 2009 with the Greens. Without question he made a conscious decision not to. That means he simply does not know or care what a Jihadist State is capable of. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan certainly know.
Insisting on this deal now is insane. If he goes ahead without advice & consent of the Senate and does something binding (and the Iranians give every indication that is what they assume he is offering) he is precipitating the Constitutional Crisis. If there is unshakable resolve to be rid of him then it is time to be rid of him.
Regards,
Jim
I am not happy with parts of Obama’s foreign policy, particularly in regard to Yemen and how he handled Russia at the beginning of the crisis in the Ukraine.
I would like to do a post on why I, at least, am liberal and Jewish, and why I feel that one reinforces the other.
After World War II, many Israelis emigrated from socialist-leaning countries in Europe.
Well viruscop , I am highly aware of genetic Jews voting democrat. While you’re just fine with Obama, he’s super good friends with a bunch of folks who wouldn’t mind a tattoo on your forearm. Embrace the disconnect as you will but the man you voted for is an anti-Semite.
Not to harp on it but I think you missed this one:
Would you support the rescinding of UN Resolution 242 as Obama has? Would that leave Israel in a defensible position, indefensible position or incredibly difficult and expensive position to constantly defend?
