Media Narrative Chart

I created a chart to ensure that budding journalists understand how to properly frame a story involving any type of shooting, terror attack, or other violent crime. Remember that the job of the Objective Journalist™ is not to tell the audience what happened, but to expand the event into an indictment of Western culture.

Jon Gabriel, Ed.: …any type of shooting, terror attack, or other violent crime….

Couple problems here.  One is that there are no terror attacks: there are no terrorists, according to Obama and the NLMSM.  There are only radical Islam (or Islamic radicals if the “journalist” is trying to stray from the politically correct), militants, and insurgents.

Contradictorily, your phrasing implies that you’ve fallen for the PC drool: terror attacks are not violent crimes; they’re acts of war.

Chart’s pretty good, though, and dismayingly accurate.

It’s a bad habit. “Hippie” is actually my preference because it underscores how unserious their thinking is.

If an act of violence occurs in Chicago, what do you do? Turn it over to Sports?
Violence occurs in a sanctuary city by an illegal alien, is it violence? The local authorities do not recognize the legal (illegal) status of the attacker. Does the attacker even exist?

Add a few text generation macros and we could automate the editorial page of the New York Times.

That would be quite a cost savings.

Quibble:  With a white shooter and white victim(s), the narrative is gun control.  With a non-white shooter (or mugger or rapist, etc.) and white victim(s), the narrative is poverty, lack of opportunity, inadequate school funding, and the all-purpose “hopelessness”.  All of these stem from systemic racism, of course.

Also, you forgot a significant trigger for terrorist violence:  climate change.  Oh, and poverty.  And lack of opportunity.  And hopelessness.

    Jon,

And they say Journalism can’t be reduced to a science. How thoughtful that you put it all on a quick reference laminated card. If the Journalist stops at Ben & Jerry’s and drools mint chip all over it he can just wash it off. If he drops it at the crime scene and it gets blood on it he can give it quick wash there too.

It’s the little things that count.

    Regards,

    Jim
