#HistoricalTrump

Ricochet, I have sad news: the Huffington Post — yes, the Huffington Post — published a piece by Andy McDonald imagining Donald Trump tweets from throughout world history, and captured his bravado and style perfectly:

568c29f0190000c90178b1d4 568c29f0190000c90178b1d5 568c29f1160000b300eba0f8 Credit where due: these are hilarious and I wish we’d come up with it first. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get in on the fun. Post your entries in the comments or on Twitter using the #HistoricalTrump hashtag.

I don’t know Tom. I don’t support Trump, but he is on our side. What happened to not shooting inside the tent? Shouldn’t we be putting more effort into sinking Hillary and Bernie than the person who could potentially be our nominee?

He’s not on my side. He doesn’t speak for me. He doesn’t represent my views. I choose who’s on my side.

Your idea of humor leaves me cold.  This is part of why Twitter is useless.

I am not sure these jokes, skits and lampoons don’t help Trump, keep the brand lively and entertaining, and perpetuate the whole circus atmosphere.  During this mercifully soon-to-conclude winter break my young scholars are back and, as I live in a large, neat as a fraternity house near a prime powder mountain, they are inviting a rotating posse of college friends. Shocking how much support, interest and good humor are expressed continually about Trump.  His lines and poses are repeated with the enjoyment my friends and I reserved for Jimmy Two Times and John Blutarsky.

I don’t know if this will transfer into many votes, but these kids have just spent the past four months in Boulder so the attitude is somewhat defiant to the pseudoculture, and Blutarsky did win election to the US Senate.

There is joking and there is mockery. This is mockery. Funny, yes. But still mockery. I just don’t think it’s smart to do when this guy could be the Republican nominee.

Plus, it’s this kind of thing that has fueled Trump’s rise from the beginning. If you want him gone then stop fueling him.

I will support someone I’m confident will support the Constitution and defend the republic and who is smart enough to know how to do that. There are only a handful of Republican candidates that I feel are qualified to do that. Trump is not one of them.

So, let me get this straight…Trump can mock, ridicule, make vulgar remarks, imitate the physically disabled but when others make fun of the way he Tweets this is somehow off limits? Give me a break. This buffoon needs to be ridiculed and mocked more not less. He is a disaster for the republic and needs to be shown for the ignorant fool that he is.

Well, the master brander obviously has a “brand” of tweets. So, yes, if it has come to this then he probably can not be hurt by it. Everyone will laughingly tweet Trump boasts for a day or two and the gist of every one will be how awesome Trump is – sincere or not it’s more Trump front and center.

I don’t think he’s a buffoon. I also think he could be the Republican nominee battling Hillary or Bernie, and that he’d be preferable to either of them despite all of the faults you legitimately raise.

In that light, we need to make the usual lesser of two evils calculation.

We also need to understand why he’s doing so well and how to stop him from getting the nomination if we think there are better candidates. Mockery has not worked. Mockery and dismissive attitude toward him has fueled his rise, IMO.

There is a distinct possibility that he is worse.  I am not convinced that there is a single issue where he actually holds conservative beliefs.  Meanwhile, he is clearly a loose cannon, unsuited to dealing with foreign nations.

Come on Ricochetti.  It’s a liberal attempt at political humor.  You have to grade on a curve.  These are people who find Calvin Trillin wine-out-the-nose funny.  Pretty good.  Not pretty, pretty, pretty good, but pretty good.
