Mr. Klavan,
Your comment on the loss of a well founded confidence in the superiority of the West that colors the worldview of our political class but especially the Left resonated deeply with me after reading your recommendation of “The devil in the White City” this weekend. I had no appreciation of the stupendous and extravagant grandeur of the Columbian Exhibition of 1893 in Chicago to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Columbus and only shamefully recall the paucity and contemptible celebration of the Five Hundredth anniversary of the same event.
Our elites appear to be petty ignorant children who live in a splendid edifice of the West and complain that an insignificant ant hill was disrupted in its creation while they lack all ability to build anything worthy to replace it as they tear it down.
“She has earned her terribleness.”
In the words of Dr Horrible (he has a Ph D in horribleness), “A lot of guys ignore the laugh, and that’s about standards. If you’re going to get into the Evil League of Evil, you have to have a memorable laugh.” If Clinton loses the cackle, the debate with Trump won’t be as fun.
Darn right on immigration. It begins with admitting that America is as affluent and free as it is because of values. It helps to actually live by those values.
