Frederick Leo is a historian and journalist based in Germany and the United Kingdom.
Leo attended the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin, where he was co-editor of the school newspaper. Together with fellow history students, he successfully participated in the German Federal President’s history competition. His group’s entry focused on the Dutch communist Marinus van der Lubbe, the alleged arsonist behind the 1933 Reichstag fire.
Leo read History at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford. In his second year, he was charities officer for his college’s Junior Common Room, in which role he worked primarily on helping rough sleepers and tackling homelessness. He also worked with Common Ground, a student group aiming to thematize racism in Oxford. Leo captained the St Edmund Hall team to the final in the 2018-19 series of University Challenge.
