For anyone curious… I’m fixing the audio overlay that is currently in the intro right now. Check back in 5 minutes and the clip will be moved to the end where I intended it to be.
God bless ’em, that was good.
Ryan & Terry, you guys pretty much rock.
My prediction is that Terry’s “HRC” will be like when he predicted the Vikings would win the Super Bowl: looking good until a shanked game-winning field goal.
This was a fun Podcast.
Great podcast. :)
Congratulations.
50th Episode Bash! Y’all rock. Great job.
Main Feed for Mssrs. Robinson and Long, I see.
I remember when you first started this podcast. Congratulations on #50.
Enjoyed it!
I can’t find a download button.
Thanks everyone! Dont be afraid to post official Presidential predictions here.
Sorry! Just fixed it.
Nice work guys. Gracias.
Thank you! That seems to happen fairly often on SoundCloud.
Is there some kind of default intended to force people to sit in front of the computer for an hour, thus defeating the entire purpose of podcasting, I wonder? I always look for an RSS feed, always download to my non-Apple mp3, and always stay away from iTunes, and sometimes content creator fealty to those dominant behemoths make me just not listen when it is made impossible to do so. A local sports station now has its stuff only available via “iHeartRadio”, and I am not joining anything or adopting some “file management software” that is really “your device controlling software”.
I’m just probably an old grouch!
Probably, Duane?
Totally loved the show and sadly share the gripes about Sound Cloud.
The default is that the “allow downloads” option is unchecked, so I have to remember to do it. When I check it, a legal disclaimer comes up regarding distribution, so it may have to do with the use of other peoples’ music, but I don’t know.
Is this available in the superfeed? I want to pull it down to me iPhone.
Found it, sorry…
Great closing song by Aimee Mann, “Calling It Quits” by the way. Shazam’d it. Bought it. Thanks.
I’m picking on Ryan one last time. Is there a reason that this is in mp4 audio format instead of the ubiquitous mp3 that works on every, er, mp3 player (and matches every other Ricochet podcast as well as almost every other one out there by anyone)?
It was kind of a pain to have to convert it in order to listen. Some people won’t bother if they are not listening on their phone, etc. I D/L stuff to listen to while working o9ut or otherwise physically engaged, so I don’t want to have to cart around a smartphone in order to access it.
Finally, I also have a high frequency hearing loss (most guys my age do, except theirs are from years of hearing too many screechy loud guitars, while I myself was born this way), so strong “hi fi” files with lots of great booming bass via 128K or higher density files are hard to hear because we need the clarity you get from less bass and more mid-treble. I have zero problem with Ricochet or EconTalk podcasts; some others are hard to discern. I strongly suggest to anyone in the podcast business to record/post in mp3 format at maybe 64 KBS or lower, at a decent volume (like Ricochet’s).
I’ll take a look at it when we record the next one. Yes, I have the option to convert the file to .mp3 or .mp4 – I believe the AAC format (.mp4) is default on the mac I use to record, but also it is slightly higher quality and smaller size than .mp3 (I think), so I hadn’t thought anything of it. SoundCloud does have its own app that should work on any platform, but we can also be found on iTunes and Stitcher.
Thanks for letting me know, though. It shouldn’t be a problem to use .mp3 next time; keep a lookout for it and let me know how it works!
In this kind of case, quality is sort of an enemy! Seriously, if the SoundCloud app can reduce the bit rate to 64 or 48, the file size will be small (half the size of the mp4) and a tiny bit tinnier, better for spoken clarity. When I was in law school (I went late in life…. all to be better at my job but to avoid any risk of having to practice law), I put review lectures on 24 KBS, and they were excellent to listen to.
