Day of Rage, Day of Sorrow

CRLsRk-WsAAc_iyI have been on Twitter since 8:00 this morning, frantically refreshing to get the latest news out of Israel. With every push of a button another tragedy unfolds before my eyes.

So far there have been seven terror attacks in Israel today, killing three and injuring 26: multiple stabbings in Jerusalem, Netanya, and Ra’anana; a shooting on a packed bus in Jerusalem, and a lethal car-attack in downtown Jerusalem.

The police have closed down all roads leading into Jerusalem, including the essential Road 1. The mood is frantic. People are scared and angry, looking for the madness to stop.

On Twitter, Palestinians are calling this a day of rage, celebrating every dead “settler,” as they call the victims. For me, it is a day of sorrow. A day where I am trying to reach my loved ones, trying to stop from crying when I see a bloody prayer-shawl in the streets of Jerusalem, trying not to be overcome with despair.

By the time this is published, I fear that my numbers will be inaccurate, that more blood will have been spilled, and more children will be orphans.

I just wanted you to know that Israel is under attack, because I’m not sure the international media will find it worth the cost of ink.

You should check out the Muqata Blog. They have the latest breaking news from Israel in English.

What has triggered this bout of violence?

This article is already dated, but it indicates that any way you look at it it’s still pretty bad:

As unrest continues to spread, at least 27 Palestinians, among them suspected attackers, have been killed by Israeli forces since October 3. Another 1,990 have been injured, according to the Palestinian Authority’s ministry of health.

Since the beginning of the month, four Israelis have been killed and at least 67 injured in attacks by Palestinians.

Thank you Evan Pokroy. I just liked Muqata Blog on facebook to stay up to date. It is an atrocity what is happening in Israel and Annika Hernroth-Rothstein is right, you won’t hear about it on the news.

Between Abbas, Hamas, and the Northern Islamic Movement calling for the “liberation” of the Temple Mount from the “defiled feet of the Jews”, one would wonder.

But surely they’ve been doing that for years.  Is there any reason this violence has started now?

It seems to be the front page in most news outlets and the second-most searched story on Google News. Which news sites aren’t reporting this?

    Zafar,

This the typical stupid incitement that has kept this nonsense going since 1948 and the false claims that Israel “pushed” the Palestinians (whoever they are) out of Palestine (wherever that was). Little things like the murder of the majority of East Jerusalem who were of course Jews in the 1920s just doesn’t fit the narrative unless you think Fascist narratives are good too. The Palestinian Authority’s data is as reliable as total propaganda always is.

The response of Israel will be to arm & train the citizenry as there is no other choice. More historical special pleading only encourages more of this. You are not helping either Israel or the Israeli Muslims.

    Regards,

    Jim

Perhaps the spout of violence has more to do with a change in reporting and local politics than with some actual event. Even if the Temple Mount conflict is not extraordinary, a story regarding it might be. As Churchhill said, a lie travels around the world before the truth can get its shoes on. Perhaps some fiction or slant has become a sudden rallying cry.

    Very sad.

Well, I don’t know if you could call it a “news site” but Yahoo news doesn’t have a mention of it at all.

    Edit

I spoke too soon. I scrolled down way below the fold and found this.

It’s taking up the whole of Yahoo’s front page when I check it — which suggests either that it’s being served to me based on where I live, or because it knows I’m interested in Middle East news based on my past browsing habits.

This is why I get worried about how easy it would be for the news aggregators to throw an election.

My guess is that it’s based on your location, since I check out most of the news out of the Middle East that manages to show up.

The title of the article is a little telling of the Yahoo perspective. Bias much?

    Annika,

I really don’t bother with other sources. Arutz Sheva will give me the real detail and the latest spin in Israeli politics.

Here is just another day in the neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Watch: Border Police Storm Bus as Terrorists Butcher Passengers

It is ridiculous to call these people terrorists. I would refer to them as Jihadist psychotics. To murder innocent people on a bus going to work, going to market, going to prayer is the work of someone who is more akin to a rabid dog than a paramilitary terrorist. If a rabid dog attacks your child you shoot the rabid dog. Jihadist incitement is the rabies that infects the minds of the creatures who do these things.

Well, if Matt Drudge was right in his recent interview with Alex Jones, the days are numbered for news aggregators: he said that the Trans Pacific Partnership includes revisions of the copyright laws will allow news originators to claim copyright over the headline of a news story and not just the content.

Anyway, for Californians, thanks the the Democrat controlled legislature and Governor Brown (Jerry Brown signs bill to automatically register anyone who has driver’s license or ID card,) the big way to throw elections is now voting by illegal immigrants:

Although noncitizens’ driver’s licenses in California feature the phrases “Federal Limits Apply” and “not valid for official federal purposes,” True the Vote spokesman Logan Churchwell pointed out that state officials “specifically chose not to make noncitizen license holders searchable in their DMV database.”

For several months the Palestinian leadership has been amping up hysteria about alleged Jewish plots regarding the Temple Mount.  For years they’ve been instructing Palestinians that there was never a Jewish temple in that location but for some reason they have chosen now to accelerate their agitation.

When the Palestinian leadership launches something truly destructive and pointless, I figure its a good time to ask whether somebody just carried off a chunk of the treasury of the Palestinian Authority.  We should inquire as to whether anybody just bought a condo in Suha’s building with funds from a Swiss account or acquired shares in a Dubai development.

Perhaps there are two objectives in play here. First, there is now Russian airpower in Syria. Russia is allied with Assad and more importantly Iran. Second, perhaps Hezbollah is putting pressure on Abbas to either act as Hezbollah acts in Gaza and if he doesn’t Hezbollah will be seen as the real power in the fight against Israel by the Palestinians.

I’m so sorry.  I didn’t know.  You are right the media has only cared about Hillary having her big day.

Of a Democrat wins, I fear for Israel.  I just don’t know what’s wrong with them that they can’t support Israel anymore.

    My prayers are for Israel.

I read that interview and think he has cause to be concerned, but most headlines are not very accurate anyway, and often don’t match the content of the article.  Some papers use different headlines for their print and electronic editions.  Maybe it would be best for news aggregators to write their own.

For example, the NYT headline, “Bill Clinton blames G.O.P. and Press for Wife’s Email Woes” would be better as, “Bill Clinton credits GOP and Press for Diligent Inquiry into Email Abuse.”

The LA Times headline, “Hillary Clinton’s big donors in California have found all sorts of reasons to be nervous,” might be better as, “Clinton would get more Hollywood money if there was less news about her.”
