My Critically Acclaimed Appearance on Fox News

ChpLyAtUkAAcyXqGretchen Carlson interviewed me today about the #NeverTrump movement. Unfortunately, Fox News doesn’t allow video embedding, but you can watch the magic here.

Across the board, the reviews of my appearance were glowing:

That kind of thoughtful engagement is why I do this.

Also, by popular request, here is my Friday appearance on OAN with host Liz Wheeler talking about women and the military draft.

Nice job, though you were a little soft. Trump’s lack of honor is as close to an objective fact as one can have in these circumstances.

I see Gretchen is all aboard the Trump train.

I guess she has to take orders from her boss just like I do from mine.

Hahaha Jon! You were great, even though you have a different view from mine, and much handsomer than the other guy. Littman.

You didn’t talk over the host or yell at the other person on the panel.

Have you never watched Fox News before? Do you have any idea of the behaviour they expect from their guests?

No kidding. You were polite and soft spoken. I hope you enjoyed your 5 minutes because that isn’t going to cut it.

She’s right. And her objection doesn’t imply that she supports Trump.

I made the same argument as Carlson a couple months ago in regard to polling about Cruz versus Rubio. And I’ll echo her now in regard to Trump. I have never been a fan of Trump (though I often argued against the exaggerations and oversights of his harshest critics), but current polls setting Trump versus Clinton are not very significant in the long run.

Right now, the polls reflect how Clinton and Trump have been presented to those polled up to this point. In a few months, the polls will reflect new conditions: what Clinton and Trump look like after they have attacked and rebutted each other, after their competing narratives and lies have spread, after positive and negative advertising as well as TV interviews have left impressions of kindness or cruelty, honesty or dishonesty, etc.

Trump and Clinton are masters of the Big Lie. They say one thing to one audience and then say something contrary to another audience with such a semblance of sincerity that listeners doubt their own memories. Klavan offered an example today. In six months, new impressions will erase many of the impressions people have of these candidates today. New memories pave over the old.

There’s a long way to go before November.

Aaron Miller: current polls setting Trump versus Clinton are not very significant in the long run.

If we were talking about two politicians with very little name recognition, you might be right.

The problem is, everybody already knows Trump and knows Clinton and has already made up their minds about both of them.

That’s probably as much as one can say in such a brief time, Jon. Well said.

That’s a good point. I’m not sure it’s enough to determine the race, though. Many voters are impressionable. And these two have never had cause to destroy each other before. Grab your popcorn.

Right. And the media is now going to go after Trump with both barrels. Trump has gotten the kid glove treatment from the media, that changes now. Any movement from here will be towards Clinton and away from Trump.

Trump is unlike every other Republican in regard to media management. He has decades of experience on TV, both being praised and being lampooned. He has a long-established pop culture following. He has connections to media outlets, like the National Inquirer. He has deliberately cultivated skills of mass appeal (see his studies of a particular dictator’s oratory handbook). And he has no moral restraints.

I think he will fare better than you expect. But we’ll see.

Gretchen really didn’t give the other guy much rope there (fair and balanced), but still, Jon’s point was pretty clear.  It’s weird to see the “host” advocating against what someone says, cutting into their responses with gems like “but so is Hillary’s”.

I get it.  I probably dislike Hillary much more so than Gretchen (think more of a loathing than a hatred), but because Trump’s the nominee doesn’t remove his orange-tinted baggage he carries around like an over-dressed gimp.

Stick to the tight black leotard, Donald, and you’ll be the “winner” every time.

Everyone knew who Trump was before he even started campaigning.

    Yet he went from this:

NBC and the Wall Street Journal released a national poll days later. Here’s how the Republican primary field looked:

You’ll notice Trump didn’t make that graphic. That’s because he was getting one — yes ONE — percent of the vote in the hypothetical Republican primary race.

To the situation we have today. I have no idea what he will do next, but based on previous behaviour I expect the Greatest Show on Earth and am somewhat wary about discounting his chances considering  all the failed pundits who did so in the past.

He was less than 1% because he had not announced yet.

His net favorability was +30 among GOP voters. it is -30 among independents

If that’s true, Trump will treat Clinton with kid gloves.

In any case, I can see him trying to seem more a more serious, calmer character now that the primaries are over. But if he truly wants the presidency for himself, he will employ the same classic Democrat tactics he employed against Cruz, like demonizing Cruz with a false connection to Lee Harvey Oswald. And if he’s losing badly, he will abandon any pretense of dignity to attack Clinton.
