Cameron, man, you gettin’ way too slicked down and uptown. You and Jon trying to impress the lovely Ms. Wheeler?
It seems everyone has forgotten the success of Rudy Giuliani’s “broken windows” law enforcement. Put people away for the low level crimes, and they are in jail not to commit the high level crimes, as it’s not two different sets of people committing the crimes. Release the low level drug offenders – get higher levels of armed robberies, home invasions, murders, etc.
I am in favor of releasing low level drug offenders and criminals. But make rehab and restitution part of their “sentence” to get out of jail. If a person steals $500 worth of property, make them pay it back to the person they robbed. If they were in jail for drug use have them attend classes and receive counseling for addiction & how to stay clean.
Liz,
Yes exactly, step up the penalty for 2nd, 3rd, 4th..etc. offenses. Unfortunately, common sense is no longer common.

Jim
