Brutal New Ads Preview the Trump Effect on GOP Senators

Conner Eldridge is a Arkansas Democrat trying to oust incumbent Republican Sen. John Boozman. He doesn’t waste time arguing right vs. left or Dem vs. GOP, but focuses solely on pro-Trump vs. #NeverTrump.

Brutal.

In another Republican stronghold, Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick hit long-time Arizona Sen. John McCain with a similar attack.

Goodbye suburban moms … and most suburban dads. A Trump nomination doesn’t just endanger the GOP’s once high hopes for the White House. With attacks like these (and far worse ones to follow), Democrats can take both houses of Congress as well, not to mention the Supreme Court.

Consider wisely, Indiana.

It’s going to be a long, hard year.

Better stock up on hard liquor.   Maybe I should cancel my TV and Internet service.   Maybe for  the next 4 1/2 years.

If Trump is nominated, Republicans will lose the Senate, the House and the Supreme Court for a generation.

Deny Trump at the convention or get destroyed down ballot, in addition to at the top.

Imagine what the Hillary campaign will come up with.  Imagine the stories the media (except for all the fawning Fox News talking heads) will tell night after night.

Conner’s ad was very strong.  Imagine those running in every state, every metropolitan area, and tell me how Trump still wins.

My very popular Republican governor is in trouble because of the Trump Crisis:

Gov. Charlie Baker’s freeze-out of GOP front runner Donald Trump could leave the popular Massachusetts pol with an election-day headache at home, both in his effort to boost Republican numbers on Beacon Hill this year, and when he faces re-election in 2018, at odds with local conservatives.

“As governor, he’s just going to walk away from the nominee? Massachusetts was overwhelmingly won by Trump in the primary and he needs to understand that,” said Mary Lou Daxland, head of the conservative Massachusetts
Republican Assembly. . . .”

    Some are optimistic:

“For a guy who says he builds bridges, the one area he hasn’t is in the conservative area,” said one GOP state lawmaker.

But Baker backers point to his more than 70 percent approval rating in polls as proof that all he needs to do is focus on the Corner Office.

“Charlie Baker is the most popular politician in America today. The reason he is doing so well, in my opinion, is that he loves to govern,” said longtime GOP operative Ron Kaufman. “Charlie loves being governor of Massachusetts and all this clutter on the side, it just doesn’t matter.”

But this is an electorate in the mood to punish the disobedient. I don’t know how this will go.

It is embarrassing that it has come to this. How did we get here? Most of those clips are months and years old. We are talking about large percentages of my fellow evangelical Christians. I just don’t get it.

Well you wouldn’t drink ammo or pour whiskey into your magazine unless you were using them contemporaneously to begin with.

    Jon,

Trump’s real negatives are off the chart. Jeb! expended his vast war chest & directed his insider contacts to attack Rubio etc. By the time he got around to Trump the Donald had made him look like a fool which he was. Because Jeb! attacked his own as if they were invaders he split the real Republicans. This gave the real invader the opening he needed.

Too late now. It’s going to be a very rough ride. The Donald has a merciless offense but he won’t be hitting sitting duck Republicans anymore (friendly fire is always a surprise). If he destroys the Republican house & senate & governorships and loses the election he doesn’t care. He’ll just blame everybody and go back to reality TV. The left wing media is more than happy to let him do that because even they realize that a felonious incompetent screaming harpy is not the best candidate. Never enough left wing garbage is their motto. There is always more of other people’s money to spend and other people’s morality to trash.

Gosh I’m just a little ray of sunshine today aren’t I.

    Regards,

    Jim

It is embarrassing that Trump is representing the Republican Party.

I can honestly say that I have never known anyone as crude and insulting as he is.

Where did he come from and how did he succeed in life this far?

Our big mistake was in taking his money for Republican candidates over the years. We created this monster. He correctly assumed he was one of the family.

So does this ad happen without the Boozman soundbite indicating that he’ll support Trump if he’s the candidate?  Likely in some form, but it would be watered down.

Fighting fire with fire is probably the best option . . . Hillary clips, Hillary clips with Bill–“this is what my opponent supports.”

    Hoya,

I’m with you. We’d better load the cannon with shrapnel and just give it to them. Trump can do whatever Trump does but the rest of the party needs a strategy.

    Regards,

    Jim

We did not create this monster. trump came from the left and he is one of the left. He has still argues from the left, still represents their caricature of us and has advocated it on national television.

He has “succeeded” only because of his wealth which he inherited from his father and government regulation which kept him in position by giving him oligopoly power with no threat of competition.

If his candidacy has shown anything, its how many center leftists there are in the Republican Party. Conservatism needs to up its game in the culture war.

Living in the deepest blue part of California, I’m surrounded by a never ending barrage of criticism of Republicans, Conservatives etc.  Time was I could defend myself, but now I’m faced with defending a segment of the population that supports an arrogant, vulgar jackass for president.

No defending that.  I can’t imagine this ending well.

Hard to see how that addresses the OP’s claim that Trump’s high negatives are likely to hurt candidates in competitive downballot races when the anti-Trump ads start airing. Harder still to see how it supports the claim that those who think this suffer from “hysteria”.

Claiming that people who disagree with you suffer from hysteria is so much easier that, you know, coming up with a rational response.  It’s right out of the progressive playbook: Hey, I don’t have to deal with your argument because you’re suffering from: racism / homophobia / Islamophobia / sexism / white-privilege bias / hysteria / etc.
