Brave Old World: Bonus Prize!

Brave Old WOrldEurope RevisitedOkay, before I sort out Talleyrand for all of you — which I will do today, I solemnly vow — I just wanted to point out that astonishingly generous Ricochet members have pushed my campaign to crowd-fund and self-publish a new book about Europe so close to the “25-percent funded” mark that I wish I could hug you all.

Then I realized that I could do something almost as nice.

I have boxes and boxes of paperback copies of Why Margaret Thatcher Matters and Menace in Europe sitting in my attic. If, between now and tomorrow, your contribution helps to put the counter over the 25-percent mark, Screen Shot 2016-04-28 at 05.43.22I’ll send you a signed copy of both books — dedicated, if you like, to the person in your life who really needs one, badly.

(And if you’ve contributed already, or don’t feel like contributing, but still want the books, send me your address. These things are just sitting in my attic, taking up space.)

Thank you — so much — again, to everyone who’s pushed this project off the ground.

Tallyrand-ho!

Claire, I’ve just made a contribution to GFM. Do I need to send a PM with my address to receive the books or is the process automatic?

Nope, you need to send me a PM. These books will make their way to you via old-fashioned postal mail, including the now-nostalgic “trip to the post office.” (Maybe I’ll Pariscope that — my local Post Office is interesting, architecturally. Art Deco.)

That’s generous but postage is expensive these days. Would the receiver pay that?  Suggestion: I would love to see some of your books donated to schools and universities around the world, especially the states without too much expense to you.  I am worried if you don’t make your financial goals, you won’t do it!  I am wondering if a plan B could be some sort of book sticker that could be autographed and the receiver could stick in the book? Or just autograph all the books you still have in a general way.  I’m thinking like your manager! :-)  Anyone else have ideas?

I see you got Jamal Rudert to pose for the book cover. Nice.

Claire, if each of us who has contributed would add a second tranche twice the size of our first, we would put you over 75%. Once there, the rest should be easy. I will open the process.

    Let’s go, everybody!

I’ll be sending them book rate, and it’s not so expensive to do it: These books have been sitting unread and unloved in my attic for ages, and if they’re genuinely wanted by friends from Ricochet, I’m delighted that they’ll be taking up space in someone else’s apartment — and maybe even giving them some reading pleasure.

Would the receiver pay that? Suggestion: I would love to see some of your books donated to schools and universities around the world, especially the states without too much expense to you.

They’re all paperbacks, so not ideal for libraries. I like the idea of sending them to Ricochet members. It seems a nice way to say “thank you” to everyone for joining, for contributing to this campaign, for being my Ricochet-buddies for so many years. Don’t you think?

We’re well on the way! We may even pass the 25 percent mark today.

Book rate isn’t that expensive. I think because they’re paperbacks, they’ll be light enough to go by “mini-max,” which shouldn’t cost more than 1.50 Euros.
