Ask Amelia: The SCOD, the Brain-dead, and the Gropey

AskAmelia3It’s Friday afternoon, which means it’s time for Amelia Hamilton to answer all your questions about bad dates, annoying Facebook friends, and the Sweet Meteor of Death.

Dear Amelia: How do you get out of a bad date gracefully without making things more awkward than they already are? …Sincerely, My Last Date Sucked

Dear Dater,

My sympathies on your last date. I’m afraid that modern dating largely does suck. Let’s just establish that right off the bat. Still, when you’re stuck with the most boring person on the planet, or Captain Gropeyhands or his cousin Lord Pretension, it can be really difficult to make it through dinner. just keep reminding yourself that, even on the occasional bad date, you’re not wasting your time. Every date you go on helps you figure to what you like and what you don’t, what matters to you and what doesn’t. Be polite, and forego dessert to keep things moving. When worst comes to worst remember…every terrible date is a really good story.

Amelia,

Should I give up Facebook because I can’t stand reading the pages of my brain-dead leftist friends?

Marooned in a Sea of Crazy

Dear Marooned,

I think we all feel your pain, especially after the last week or so. We all know it’s going to get worse from now until the election, so it can be really tempting to can it. Do what you need to do, but consider your options carefully: it is worth potentially losing contact with the people you like, with the people who make you feel like you’re not alone in this? Take a break, troll if you need to troll, filter who you need to filter, and enjoy yourself. Keep in mind that you might feel even more marooned without your social media support system.

Amelia,

SMOD or SCOD?

@NathanWurtzel

Dear Nathan,

I’ve carefully weighed the options, and I’m going to have to go with SCOD. From what I understand, it is a quicker and sweeter death than the meteor, and I’m all about getting this done. We don’t need to draw this out into a nuclear winter. Who has time for that? Now, if they could be running mates, we’d really be talking.

    I’m curious as to how you figured out “My last date sucked,” was female.
