Chastising the Climate Wreckers

 

The Oregonian Editorial Board wrote one paragraph that Stalin would have been pleased to see in print. The editorial chastised Republican state senators for leaving the state to prevent the passage of a cap and trade bill that was nothing more than a tax increase on every resident of the State of Oregon.

There are legitimate arguments that the bill gives allowances to politically connected players while punishing others. There’s the underlying tension of any carbon bill – the whole point of pricing carbon is to inflict economic pain on businesses and individuals in order to change behavior. And there’s the uncertainty of whether there will be viable options to provide Oregonians an alternative to change their behavior.
