Okay, my statement about how I felt was true even in the 80s, but WTF is this garbage? Really? Why is this even news? http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/01/02/disney-princes-in-snow-white-sleeping-beauty-are-sex-offenders-professor-says.html Read More View Post

Dear New Year Resolution People,

You know who you are. Every year you decide that this is the year. Somehow that date rolling back over to the start of the calendar means today is the day to start making radical changes in your life. You research gym memberships, toss out the junk food and get the diet cookbook out, buy some self-help books on Amazon, and start writing goals in your daily planner. Then you go around asking everyone else you know what their New Year’s resolutions are. And when you ask me, I always give the same smart-mouth reply that this year I resolve to not make New Year’s Resolutions.

I was in Myrtle Beach with one of my old friends from Raleigh. We had rented a condo for five nights in order to watch the bowl games from December 28th through the playoffs on New Year’s Day. At 0330 on the 1st, my wife (neutral observer) texted me to inform me her brother had […]

Contributor Post Created with Sketch. The American Divide

As 2017 came to a close, I found myself thinking quite a lot about the stupidity and futility of the year just passed. Don’t get me wrong: I think it was a good year, on balance, as I’ve written elsewhere. But it was also a year marked by intemperate rhetoric, invective, and hyperbole. Given my druthers, I’ll take a year that’s long on substance and short on form, and 2017 was certainly that. Still, would it be asking too much to hope for both?

America is divided all sorts of ways, but the most glaring political chasm seems to be not between the left and the right, but rather between the sensible and the absurd — and no, that isn’t two different ways of saying the same thing.

Bret Stephens is under the illusion that he is a moral beacon for America and from that lofty perch he informs us that Mr. Trump does not meet his high standards.

Stephens did not turn the judgment dial to 11 when the moral character of government was perverted by repeated breaches of honor by Mr. Obama, or when the Obama years saw the Democratic Party agenda become a sustained assault on the traditional moral and political culture of America that Stevens allegedly values so deeply.

This was probably inevitable, wasn’t it? A new and improved version of an electronic suction device that terminates a pregnancy/kills a baby from 0-10 weeks gestation, in a couple of minutes, with none of the unpleasantness and inconvenience of a full-on surgical abortion. The device is called “Softouch” and is available only in New York at the moment, but it could, in theory, be easily done in any doctor’s office.

Or … eventually … as a DIY project completed in the comfort of your own home?

Sometime back in April, I asked for tips on how to be a more economical cook. Someone asked if I could do a look-back post and tell you guys how it went.

Our first year practicing a budget was a huge success! We were able to replace a 16-year-old car with a 2017 Honda Civic, financing less than half of the cost. We have also put aside another couple thousand for our kids. We hope to have the car paid off sometime in June or July, which will put us at Dave Ramsey’s Baby Step Six-ish once again.

Writing in the New York Times, erstwhile conservative Bret Stephens writes about how he is unhappy that conservative things are being accomplished because Donald Trump is accomplishing them. Tax cuts. Deregulation. More for the military; less for the United Nations. The Islamic State crushed in its heartland. Assad hit with cruise missiles. Troops to Afghanistan. […]

It all started during the 2016 presidential campaign. Hillary Clinton seemed a certain winner, so a lawyer from the “lock her up” movement contacted me with what he thought was a clever scheme. He wanted me to implicate her in a sex scandal in order to derail her campaign. When I told him I wasn’t […]

Many want to know who are the leaders of the current demonstrations in Iran. Many wish to know their political intentions. I have no magic source of information. However, I put two pieces of evidence before you. First, a speech by Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI for the transitional period. Her mandate is to […]

The Russians invaded eastern Ukraine — I call it an invasion because Russian military advisors are on the ground advising Russian separatists, as well as supplying tanks, artillery, firearms, and munitions to separatists. The Russians are also shelling Ukrainian military positions, civilian homes, and infrastructure from positions inside Russia.

There have been over 10,300 military and civilian deaths in Ukraine. From Radio Free Europe:

My January 1st is complete, Notre Dame defeated LSU today in the Citrus Bowl. Notre Dame might be considered a small university that is competing with giants. Notre Dame has about 8,000 under – grads, yet they played a schedule that included 7 top 25 teams. They finished their year with 10 wins and 3 […]
