As we celebrate our glorious Independence Day I contemplate the good and bad news concerning the state of our country. The good news is that We the People are still sovereign; we are the ultimate authority in this republic. If we don’t like the laws the Congress passes or the way that the President executes […]

Just nine months ago, Jeremy Corbyn swept into the leadership of the British Labour Party, with an overwhelming 60% of the vote. Today, Labour MPs are trying desperately to force him out. Are they right to do so? Or should they have accepted the decision of the Labour electorate, and backed Corbyn to the bitter […]

I think I’m stuck.  I wrote a post about Bill Clinton and Repentance, complete with a few screen shots from the movie.  I saved it as a draft, and saw that one of the screen shots wasn’t positioned quite right, so went in to edit it.  I then saved my edits, and of course (this […]

After four years as a Ricochet member, this is my second post. I have gratefully absorbed Ricochet’s rich and diverse posts and photoshops, but chiefly have subsisted on the many and varied podcasts. Since the pages are non-scalable on my iPad, I just can’t read things anymore in the tiny font they all seem to […]

I swore months ago that I would stop reading posts on Trump. I’ve already cheated on that, reading some of my favorite OPs, in spite of myself. But I never said I wouldn’t write an OP on Trump. Before I pull all my hair out, here it is: What if Trump is elected and turns out […]

The Gray Menace

Work has been extra stressful lately. Home, however, is my refuge. It is nice to know that, no matter what happens, I can come home to a loving family, sit out on the porch (perhaps with an adult beverage) and just relax and watch as colorful birds flutter around the feeder. Now even that simple pleasure is being taken away from me by some bushy tailed tree rats.

My son is the birder in the family. He likes all animals, but since birds are more accessible than say lions and tigers and bears, he has managed to become a real bird expert. The boy has some ADD tendencies. He can’t finish four problems on his math homework without getting up and walking around at least ten times. So when I saw him build a blind and then sit near motionless for 20 minutes until birds came close enough for him to take photos I realized this was a hobby I should encourage.

This story just came out in Politico today and is definitely work reading, particularly for you never people. The “Why Trump Won’t Get Dumped in Cleveland” link is here.  What struck me as key from the story were the comments of delegates who sincerely felt a moral obligation to honor the voters who participated in […]

“Janitor’s World” reads the logo on the new plastic urinal cake holder in our first floor men’s room, with a simplified mollweide globe projection behind it. I began to daydream about what such a place might be: Would the salesmen all look like Neil Flynn from Scrubs? Instead of shopping carts, would you get to […]

Thank You for Being a Broad

alg-actress-rue-mcclanahan-jpgYears ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Rue McClanahan. It was the opening night after party for the one-man Broadway show, I Am My Own Wife. (Ages before the trans moment.)

My date and I had just sat down at her table as Brian Dennehy was making a red-faced exit. Ms. McClanahan told him to get his paws off her, quote: “you damn dirty ape!” It seems the simian thespian had tried to make a clumsy pass, and our Golden Girl was having none of it.

My date and I were, of course, in awe! I introduced myself. She knew exactly who I was from watching cable news. And told me, without a hint of drawl, that she detested my politics.

So Donald tweets an ad slamming Hillary for being corrupt.  The first time I see the ad is in a series of tweets labeling it as Trump being anti-semitic.   I look at the ad and say to myself this is over-reaction, in fact I didn’t even register that the Star of David aspect was […]

I’ll generalize and assert that nevertrumpers who are also conservatives despise Hillary Clinton with the heat of a thousand suns. And yet they spend much, if not most. of their energy criticizing Trump. Why is that? It took me a fair amount of introspection to figure out why I, for one, do this. First of all, […]
