“In the past few weeks, since she defeated Bernie Sanders, Mrs. Clinton has been impersonating a centrist. Her foreign policy speech was crafted to contrast sharply with Trump’s illiterate eruptions. She praised NATO, upheld the importance of alliances with Japan and South Korea, defended John McCain’s heroism, stressed the centrality of American world leadership, and […]

Come sit, my children, in front of the fire. It’s time to scry the will of God for us, so clear your minds of notions and desire and stare into the flames of gold and rust. The colors play as the burning wood pops and lids droop as plasma rises and drops. The truth is […]

I have a confession to make. I do not like bugs. Many bugs have learned that the hard way over the years as they’ve wandered into my house and paid the ultimate price for doing so. As I said, I do not like bugs. So when “bugs” was given as this month’s topic, I almost […]

In ancient times (before the Florida Republican primary) Rubio supporters tended to characterize their favored candidate in practical, if not cynical terms, explaining that the Florida senator was the GOP’s best shot Republicans had at defeating Hillary. More

My challenge is writing a book for publication. The book is Nashville 1864: From the Tennessee to the Cumberland. It provides a history of Hood’s invasion of Central Tennessee from October through December 1864. My introduction to the series is here. The last update is here. Duck River Bridge at Columbia, Tennessee Since last update I have added 2200 words […]

Today California legislators sent a slate of 11 anti-gun bills to Gov. Jerry Brown for signature. The collection, dubbed “Gunpocalypse” by gun rights group Firearms Policy Coalition, is a broad attack on 2nd Amendment and 14th Amendment rights. Since Gov. Brown is leaving for vacation in less than 48 hours, activists are scrambling to persuade him to veto the bills before he leaves and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom takes over.

While Assemblyman Kevin DeLeon claims lawmakers are “just trying to move forward with reasonable gun legislation,” the measures are anything but reasonable. The bills will:

When I was a kid, Independence Day was all about the fireworks. Oh yeah, we had food and all, but we didn’t have an afternoon BBQ family get together – just whatever we stuffed into a hamper and drug to our fireworks watching spot on the fairgrounds. Even as a young adult in my 20’s […]

Fox NewsI was invited back to “The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson” to share my #NeverTrump views with America and the world at large. Fox News doesn’t allow embedding, but you can watch the clip here.

The appearance was regrettably short, because Donald Trump rudely gave his anti-free trade speech during Fox’s crucial Jon Gabriel Programming Block. But what remains is three solid minutes of punditry gold.

Apparently female personal grooming is a controversy. The comments are hilarious BTW. The NY Times Odd, but this new oppressive hygiene craze cannot possibly be justified, no good thing can come from it and all you guys with preferences are no good pedophiles who like the prepubescent look, or a porn freak. Ladies who like […]

This is the best example of how to conduct a fair interview I’ve ever seen. Christiane Amanpour interviews Daniel Hannan. She asks intelligent questions and listens patiently and carefully for his answers, and then asks intelligent follow-up questions. This exemplifies why she is such a respected journalist known for being fair and balanced.

It is a tour de force. Watch and learn.

Following last week’s referendum, where Britain voted to leave the European Union, Prime Minister David Cameron announced his intention to step down. Former London mayor Boris Johnson was seen as his most likely successor. Things have changed.  Earlier today, Michael Gove, the current Justice Minister and another prominent Brexiteer, announced his intention to stand for […]

Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Economists and the Universal Basic Income: The Details Matter a Lot

062916ubiWell, the IGM Forum economists survey produced some unpleasant results for universal basic income advocates. And these comments suggest why the economists are so skeptical:

– “Current US status quo is horrible. A more efficient and generous social safety net is needed. But UBI is expensive and not generous enough”.
