Promoted from the Ricochet Member Feed by Editors Created with Sketch. Flyover 45: 45th Episode Special!

Peter Robinson finally returns my phone calls? Why? Probably because Flyover Country is 45 episodes old! Maybe that’s not as special as 50, but it still seemed like a nice, pretty number. This week’s topics include oil, the environment, and the state of the GOP. Was that a cameo from Hillary Clinton there at the end? Listen to find out!

Everything I need to know about politics, I learned from Dune: Fear is the mind-killer.  Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them. That which submits rules. … The willow submits to the wind and […]

In the preface to Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis urges the reader to not stay in the hallway of Christianity any longer than necessary, but rather enter into a room – a faith community or communion. Lewis says “it is in the rooms, not in the hall, that there are fires and chairs and meals.” However, […]

No. Not national politics or world peace. Three small things. In my case, I’d fix three things that were once fixed, but government has unfixed them. Preview Open

Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Turkey Votes

2015-09-08t200504z_1485595093_gf10000197992_rtrmadp_3_mideast-crisis-turkey-pkk.jpg_1718483346According to initial results, a huge number of voters changed their minds at the last minute and decided to vote for the AKP, despite what they said to pollsters. Either this is a huge upset, a sign of fraud, or the early results are way off. With 50 percent counted, the projection is that the AKP will have 331 seats in parliament — enough for single party rule, and to effect constitutional reforms by taking them to a referendum.

The results so far may be skewed because the earliest results are from the east, where the AKP is stronger. CHP and MHP are stronger in the West.

Today is All Saint’s Day. In addition to being my Lutheran anniversary, it’s also the festival on which we celebrate the saints who have gone to their eternal reward in the last 2,000 years. On this day, I thought I’d share a Disney song that helped me join the liturgical tradition of so many of those […]

Ricochet member PJS asks me how is Pepper doing . . . she’s doing great! However, her full name is “Pepper Dammit” because we say that a lot around here, as I’m about to tell you. Pepper is as rambunctious a cat as my wife and I have ever seen. As for the “Mass Destruction” […]

I write a weekly book review for the Daily News of Galveston County. (It is not the biggest daily newspaper in Texas, but it is the oldest.) My review normally appears Sunday. (This week’s was printed on Wednesday.) When it appears, I post the previous week’s review on Ricochet. Preview Open

I never cease to hear from the progressive side an easily repeated list of Republican failures, most mischaracterized but still right at the tip of their tongue and taken as gospel. Iraq War, gridlock, cutting spending of worthy cause (X), racism, etc. Since 2009, I have witnessed some of the biggest boneheaded government failures laid […]
