Mississippi Is Burning From what I have gathered from what happened in Mississippi, it was far from the Reaganesk reach across the aisle towards the Black community that the hosts of the Ricochet podcast portray. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that Haley Barbour and the boys used every loathsome Left wing tactic known […]

The 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand has come and gone, and I realize that I know very little about what was essentially the kickoff to the most genocidal centuries in history. Most people my age (I’m 35) think Franz Ferdinand is an indie pop band from Scotland, which is true,  but […]

In a few comments at Ricochet when Mosul fell to ISIS, members wondered why a half million people would flee when ISIS came in.   Then it came out that ISIS is just another name for ISIL.  These guys are so notoriously brutal that even al-Qaeda leaders have disavowed association with them. They are taking […]

Wow! That was a fun weekend, indeed. My son pointed out that it was so much more productive to have substantive discussions with people that START with agreement on most of the fundamentals. You can get a lot farther when you do not first need to get past the “everyone has extremists,” or “Why don’t […]

As I watch the civil war within the GOP rage on in Virginia, Mississippi and elsewhere several criticisms come to mind. This fight is not promoting growth but sapping the conservative movement of direction and purpose. The stakes are too high for Republicans to be focused on indiscriminately purging the party of those who are […]

When reading Jonah Goldberg, I generally find his humor tiresome.  These vignettes are usually placed at the beginning of his articles, and I quickly skip to the meat of what he’s out to say, which I often find illuminating. Humor-wise, this G-File is an exception.  Page one almost had me in tears.  He was in […]

This weekend, even when the New York Times tells a true story  they cannot tell the whole story. In June, 2006 their James Risen disclosed that the Bush Administration had been able to identify the sources of terrorist funding. After that the supporters of the war against civilization found other ways to fulfill their “religious” duties — […]

I’m referring to Charles C.W. Cooke’s column in NRO on the militarization of local police.  A couple of things: I had occasion to travel around western Europe’s airport’s and train stations before 9/11/2001, and noticed that their police were already armed up.  I’m talking about places like Frankfurt Airport, and one of the five major […]

A couple of friends and myself have a habitual game of sprinkling sentences with meaningful quotes from the movie, The Outlaw Josey Wales. The film was an adaptation of a book written under the pen name of Forest Carter by a former Klan leader with an imagined Cherokee heritage who had relocated to Abilene, Texas […]

There is a report that at least one person at the Denver branch office of the Environmental Protection Agency is returning to a state of nature on his or her own timetable. Government Executive obtained an email in which Deputy Regional Administrator Howard Cantor discussed toilets clogged with paper towels (at least someone is using […]

McDaniel’s Options Down in Mississippi

Chris_McDaniel_TB_t670Chris McDaniel has so far refused to concede defeat to Thad Cochran in the GOP Senate primary down in Mississippi this past Tuesday.  (Cochran’s campaign, as all the world knows, made a concerted effort to get Democrats to the polls.)  On the thread about this week’s podcast, we’ve been going around and around about McDaniel’s options for challenging the Cochran victory.

As a public service, so to speak, to everyone who has been following that thread, I thought I’d post a couple of items.

From the Washington Post:

In Mississippi it is perfectly legal, no matter how you are registered, to vote in one of the two primaries.  If, however, you voted in the Democrat primary and now you try to vote in the Republican Primary Runoff, that ain’t kosher.  This in fact is voting fraud.  Your vote will be thrown out.  The […]

Forgive me for not writing this post two years ago, but Comcast only recently made House of Cards available on demand. A good friend of mine who writes about pop culture for a living urged me to watch House of Cards. He’s a liberal who likes to rib me, but he assured me that the […]
